Back in May 2008, after Moonlight had been cancelled by CBS, there was some talk of the vampire series moving over to the CW network. The Media Rights Capital (MRC) company had purchased CW’s Sunday night timeslots, to fill with their own content.
Unfortunately, MRC was committed to using their own shows (a move that certainly didn’t work out very well) and Alex O’Loughlin, Sophia Myles, and Jason Dohring had to start looking for other work. Considering that there are still thousands and thousands of loyal Moonlight fans, you have to think that somebody is regretting the decision.
Well, it took almost two years but Moonlight is finally coming to the CW network. Unfortunately, no new episodes are being produced. The CW will pair the 16 existing episodes with reruns of The Vampire Diaries beginning Thursday, June 3rd.
Here’s the official press release.
“MOONLIGHT” TO SHINE ON THE CW
Acclaimed Vampire Series starring Alex O’Loughlin Joins “The Vampire Diaries” On Thursday Nights Beginning June 3May 6, 2010 (Burbank, CA) — Summer just got a lot scarier on The CW. The network will air the acclaimed drama MOONLIGHT on Thursday nights beginning June 3. MOONLIGHT will air from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET, following encore episodes of the first season of the The CW’s hit drama, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
On MOONLIGHT, Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin) is a captivating, charming and immortal private investigator from Los Angeles, who defies the traditional blood-sucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was “bitten” 60 years ago by his new bride, the seductive Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon). Forever 30 years of age, Mick’s as handsome and charismatic as the day he was “turned,” and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef (Jason Dohring), a hedge fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living. One night years ago, a single act of kindness changed Mick when he saved a young girl’s life, making him want to be a better vampire. Now their paths cross again and Mick develops a distinctive bond with Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), who has grown into a beautiful, ambitious internet investigative reporter. Reconnecting with her unleashes feelings Mick knows he can’t pursue without exposing that part of him that would make him a monster in Beth’s eyes. As Mick lives between two realities, fighting his adversaries among the undead and falling in love, he discovers the mysteries and pleasures that a valuable life has to offer.
Produced By: Silver Pictures Television in association with Warner Bros. Television
Executive Producers: Joel Silver, Chip Johannessen, Ron Koslow, Rod Holcomb and Gerard Bocaccio
Co-Executive Producer: Trevor Munson
Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that CW or any other network has any plans or interest in resurrecting Moonlight. O’Loughlin is expected to be busy with the new Hawaii Five-0 this fall on CBS (which co-owns the CW network).
What do you think? Will you be tuning in to watch the Moonlight reruns?
PLEASE make another season….it was one of THE best shows ever made….please please please please…
I would love to see reruns of this show on tv again. Huge loya fan
I certainly hope the show and the story can be resurrected and continue! Go Moonlight!
I’m from Latvia. Small country next to Russia. We need Moonlight! Please take a series of Season 2. We need to know what happens next. There isn’t enough vampire movies. We need this one.
It is a shame they did not continue the series, yes the drama’s “Ghost Whisper”, “Numbers” were good but I am a “Vampire” Fan. The Twilight Series, Vampire Diaires, etc. They should have kept it going or maybe even do it again, if the same actor’s would be able to play their roles. But it nice to beable t watch the series on DVD. Beth and Mick are made for each other, and maybe a Movie would be a answer to finally hav all guestions that were left unanswered. Sound’s like a EXCELLENT ANSWER “Movie any one”??!
I feel that CBS made a big mistake with moonlight if you look at all of the other vampire series and movies out their like true blood, vampire diaries and twilight. In my opinion moonlight is better than 2 out of the 3 with twilight the hipe now vampire fans would love to see this back on tv. When moonlight had first came out in 2007 the writers strike had played a major part in my opinion for the shows untimely cancelation. CBS, moonlight isn’t Jericho its much bigger than that and the fan base from back in 2007 as… Read more »

I just discovered Moonlight and watched the entire series over a few days. I am absolutely dumbfounded that the show was canned after only one (shortened) season.

I have been monitoring any news about possible Moonlight revival since it was cancelled in 2008. I’m leaving a message here in the hopes that I can help its cause…..
I truly do not understand why it was cancelled. There are so many crappier shows on TV that don’t get canceled….ARGH.
hi americans, editor, or whoever who’s reading this. my name is tina and i come from NORWAY. i wanted to say that no matter what you think moonlight has way more fans than you can imagine. there are so many people in norway who loves the show. also in another article you said that you were looking for something other for Alex O’loughlin to play in, that you were looking for something that would “be right for him”, well let me give you a little ‘wake up call’, you already have! =) moonlight is a thrilling, show that really deserves… Read more »
I love the Moonlight serial. I live in Greece and I think that it should be continued. It is unfair for its followers not to be given a second chance so as to watch a dissent finale.
I totally Agree! And I believe they left us hanging a little, with Coraline (i dont know how to spell her name), and also with Beth and Mick’s relationship
I discover this serial and i’m watching it now. This is a perfect serial and i admire it! I wish they make season 2, it’s very interesting. And many of quotes from it are used in Twilight. Also the Vampire Diaries took from it some ideas.
It’s terrible mistake not to resurrect Moonlight.
I will add that I live in Ukraine and this serial popular not only in USA, he is looked in many countries!
All my friends look him and admire!)
Excellent serial! We very wait continuation!
