TV show description:
This multi-camera comedy revolves around a rising stand-up comic who’s trying to take his career to the next level — and the friends and mentors who lift him up, hold him back, and push him around.
John Mulaney (Mulaney) is a 29-year-old comedian working the stand-up circuit and looking for his big break. His life changes drastically when self-centered comedy legend and game show host Lou Cannon (Martin Short) hires the young comic as a writer. Lou may be John’s entrée into the world of big-money show business, but he’s also a total nightmare.
Mulaney’s life becomes a tug-of-war between the stress of his new job and his guilt over not being there for his best friends and roommates:
Jane (Nasim Pedrad) is a tightly wound yet directionless personal trainer. Motif (Seaton Smith) is a powerhouse comic who shares nothing in common with Mulaney other than their love of stand-up. A trust-fund baby, Andre (Zack Pearlman) has a knack for showing up in Mulaney’s life at the worst possible moments.
Mulaney’s one refuge from his life of chaos is his neighbor, Oscar (Elliott Gould). He’s a 71-year-old gay NYC veteran who’s seen it all. Oscar is opinionated, refined, gentle, wise and sometimes extremely cantankerous. Most of all however, he’s a source of sound advice when Mulaney needs it most.
Episode #13 — Life is a Series of Different Apartments
When their building is infested with bed bugs, Mulaney and the gang secretly crash at a Lou’s vacant pad and unknowingly eat some special Oscar “treats,” leading to more problems when Lou unexpectedly returns from vacation early.
First aired: February 15, 2015
What do you think? Do you like the Mulaney TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season?
I thought it was fantastic. Seinfeld rip-off? You kidding me? I saw it as more of a Seinfeld tribute and how relationship dynamics have evolved since then. The series till holding on to relatable, time-enduring elements i.e. insecure, self-centered folks who are actually good deep down. It is too bad the network and viewers were not able to see past Seinfeld, Seinfeld, Seinfeld.
The series was self-deprecating enough to make references to it people!
Absolutely renew!! It is wonderful to get to see Mulaney act out the sketches that I’ve heard just as stand-up comedy. Other than Mulaney himself, the characters of Jane and Oscar are very enjoyable and entertaining. They are an added bonus which one cannot get with just the stand-up routines. Renew!!! 🙂
Renew!
TOTALLY un-funny show… not watchable.
Tuned in because I like his stand up. Kept watching because of Martin Short.
A test pattern would be better than this waste of talents.
Uggg. Mulaney is a very funny guy with some hilarious standup routines. This Seinfeld copycat of a show however is about as unfunny as a comedy can get. With an overacting cast bringing a leaden delivery with zero comedic timing to predictable uninspired insipid so-called “punchlines”, the only thing that could make it worse is the deluge of canned laughter which annoyingly assaults the viewer about every other line. What a shame. I have the feeling that either Mulaney is completely out of his league or more likely that the producer put a stranglehold on the show preventing Mulaney’s comedic… Read more »
We didn’t last 5 min. Bad bad bad !!!!
I think it is hilarious. Even though, John is not an actor I believe given time he will grow into the role just as Sienfeld before him, The bare bones of this show is great
Agree, great show & worth more seasons.
Cancel, every line John Mulaney says seems forced, like he is reading something for the first time.
Seinfeld was like that at first. They don’t give shows a chance to develop now.
Granted “Seinfeld” was bad at first, but not nearly as bad as this. Dreadful.
