TNT Books Second Season of “Murder in the First”
Powerful Crime-Drama Ranked as One of Basic Cable’s Top 10 Summer Series
TNT has ordered a second season of its powerful crime drama Murder in the First, starring Taye Diggs (Private Practice) and Kathleen Robertson (Boss). The series, which is executive produced by Emmy(R) winner Steven Bochco (NYPD Blue) and Eric Lodal, ranked as one of basic cable’s Top 10 series of the summer. TNT has ordered 10 episodes for the second season.
Over the summer, Murder in the First took viewers deep inside a complex homicide investigation that spanned the entire season. The series followed San Francisco homicide detectives Terry English (Diggs) and Hildy Mulligan (Robertson) as they investigated two seemingly unrelated murders. The mystery deepened, however, when they found that both murders had a common denominator in a Silicon Valley wunderkind.
In its first season, Murder in the First averaged more than 4.7 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery, including 1.3 million adults 25-54. The drama drew a sizeable audience through TNT’s various platforms, reaching an average of 9.2 million viewers through live television viewing, DVR playback, set-top VOD and digital on-demand.
Murder in the First is produced by TNT Originals. TBS International is handling distribution to regions outside the United States and Canada.

What do you think? Did you watch the first season? Are you glad that Murder in the First has been renewed for a second season — or do you think it should have been cancelled?
love it! l love it ! love it!!!
First, I have never commented on a program before. That’s how strongly I feel about commenting here. I enjoyed watching season 1. I DID NOT LIKE the story line with the kid that killed so many people, found he had an abusive childhood, then sentenced to death. DD NOT LIKE IT AT ALL. Enough that I almost didn’t finish the season, but I did. Probably wont’ watch next year.
This is the best tv series i have seen in a long time. The writing and acting are outstanding. It is one of those great series that is so engaging it seems to end too soon………as you want more. Congrats to all involved with Murder in the First.
I think it’s a taut drama with impressive character development inside a complex plotted narrative. The intertwined stories keep the tension alive in each episode. I strongly recommend the series continue so it can develop it’s potential!
I’m watching the second series in the UK. Brilliant, and just as good as the first series. Hope there will be more after this.
I am glad they brought it back
Yes I am glad that there will be a second series although I thought the first series fizzled out a bit towards the end taking the easy option with the killer taking his own life. I also think the two detective characters are a bit too ‘glamorous’. I would like the creators particular Stephen Bocho to reconsider and do a ‘police procedural’ series again like they did a few years ago, ie hill street blues, nypd blue, Brooklyn South etc.
PLEASE BRING BACK ****MURDER IN THE FIRST… THE INTRIGUE, MYSTERY, CLEAR CUT SCENES WERE SUPER DETECTION. WHAT A PAIR, PERSONAL, SENITIVITY IS TOUCHING BETWEEN, TWO SMART DETECTIVES; BLACK, SMOOTH VELVET PRESENCE OF TAYE; WHITE, FAINT WITH EMOTION, AND THE REALITY IS CLEVER AND ASSUMING BRIDGING THE BLACK & WHITE RELATIONSHIP ON A LEVEL OF UNIQUENESS. PLEASE BRING THE SHOW BACK; IT RANKS HIGH OR HIGHER THAN SOME MYSTERY DETECTIVE SHOWING NOW…
