Though it was promoted ad nauseum during the coverage of the Summer Olympics, NBC could find few friends for their My Own Worst Enemy series. The TV show has been cancelled after airing just four episodes.
My Own Worst Enemy follows the strange life of Henry Spivey (Christian Slater), a hum-drum suburbanite with a wife and two kids (played by Madchen Amick, Taylor Lautner, and Bella Thorne). Unknown to Henry and his loved ones, he has a dual identity as a secret operative and trained killer named Edward Albright.
Edward works for a superspy organization under supervisor Mavis Heller (Alfre Woodard) and is partnered with friend and fellow operative Tom Grady/Raymond Carter (Mike O’Malley). Others in the series include Omid Abtahi, Saffron Burrows, James Cromwell, Sarai Givaty, Mark Ivanir, Mindy Sterling, Missy Yager, Eugenia Yuan, and Louis Giambalvo.
The show debuted on October 13, 2008 on NBC. Despite a lot of high-profile promotion, the premiere attracted only 7.27 million viewers and a 3.0/8 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers dropped to 5.69 million and a 2.6/6. The most recent episode hit a low of 4.27 million and 1.8/5. Though Heroes has been struggling this season, Worst Enemy has been losing over 40% of its lead-in audience and more than that in the key demographic.

NBC has announced that they are cancelling the series following the completion of its ninth episode. It’s been confirmed that the network plans to continue to air the series until all of the episodes have been shown.
If Worst Enemy goes uninterrupted, the series finale should air on December 15th, the same night as Heroes’ so-called “fall finale.” Because of the abrupt cancellation, fans of Worst Enemy aren’t expected to be given any kind of conclusion to the show’s ongoing storylines. That’s enough to make even mild-mannered Henry angry. Stay tuned!

Typical…..a very smart/intellectual show not for the brain dead masses gets cancelled! This is why I only watch ONE “Heroes” NBC show!! They keep cancelling them every year…so I am forced to watch CBS every night!!!!
The only problem with MOWE, is it is on NBC.
The only problems with My Own Worst Enemy were that it was 1)too well done and 2)too smart in concept for the general American viewing audience.
Let’s face it: Americans have been dumming themselves down for decades and the shows that remain on air demonstrate this fact!!!
we love the show…poop on you.
I should also mention that if you want to leave a comment on that site you have to complete the NBC panel questions first. There is a spot at the end to add you own comments.
Why would the cancel this, it pulls in a pretty good audience, NBC expects too much from the shows in this timeslot, anyone remember Journeyman? That was the show in this timeslot last year and it was canceled too. The show was pretty good.
I bet whatever show ends up in this timeslot gets canceled next year too, Im not even going to bother watching it since all the shows in that timeslot seem to be canceled and never get a chance to finish
reading through the comments – Ken makes a good point. HBO takes the time to let shows mature and grow on their audiences before pulling the plug. Because My Own Worst Enemy didn’t become an overnight ER does’nt mean NBC should give up on it. I swear, it’s like they don’t give a flying crap about what viewers think – just what nielson boxes tell them (which I’ve never had by the way)
This blows – somebody trashed the computer at janus and now we’ll never know what the hell happened. My Wife and I stopped watching Boston Legal for this show (which we watch later in the week on abc.com) NBC creates these riveting shows, get viewers drawn in, then spit us out. Same thing they did with Studio 60 (Seriously? you decided to keep 30 Rock? WTF????). NBC blows – glad they are bankrupt. You don’t do this to viewers. I know they are a business, but they have other timeslots to mess with. Heroes has been somewhat lame this season… Read more »

I just watched the last episode of MY OWN WORST ENEMY. Is this how NBC plans to end the series? On a goddamn cliffhanger? What the hell is this?
The teleivsion executives of today are a sad shadow of the executives of the past . . . and that includes the past decade. This is pitiful.
I would love for another MY OWN WORST ENEMY to be picked up by another network. But sadly, I do not see this happening.
You fools seem to think that the 18-49 demographic is what’s most important to your schedulling. That’s BS. You should be targeting the 60+ BOOMERS who have all the money, all the time to watch TV, and can out spend 90% of the working class. While they are still trying to pay off houses, cars, boats and kids education, the BOOMERS pay cash for their new cars, cruise around the world and spends a lot of their leasure time watching more T.V. than anyone else. You are overlooking the greatest market you will ever have. I know you know what… Read more »
WTH? Why would they cancel a show after 4 episodes? That’s sooo dumb! It amazes me how STUPID the networks can be. They keep doing the same BS. They get good shows, determine that the ratings aren’t what they want then can the show. Fox did it, now NBC is doing it. Why can’t they leave well enough alone. Who on earth is expecting killer ratings with the current TV/internet environment? Ppl are not watching TV like they used to but don’t cut the shows that those of us who actually are watching like. Give the show a chance, seriously.… Read more »
Now that My Own Worst Enemy is canceled and Scrubs has moved to ABC, The Office is the only thing worth watching on NBC. Better promotion and a different time slot would have helped this show.
Last year they cancelled Journeyman which was the only decent show on NBC. So this year, they make a comeback with My Worst Own Enemy. Another great show…so what does NBC do…??? They cancel it??!! Brilliant move NBC…then you wonder why ABC and CBS are waaaay better networks.
Next year when NBC boasts another show, I won’t fall for the same trick three times!
