A couple months ago, we reported that the head of ABC expected Nashville to be renewed for a fifth season. However, there’s been a big change at the network so now there’s a distinct possibility that Nashville may be cancelled instead. Is it time?
The Nashville TV show continues to follow the lives and careers of country music superstars Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) and Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton). The rest of the cast includes Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Eric Close, Jonathan Jackson, Chris Carmack, Lennon Stella, Sam Palladio, Maisy Stella, Will Chase, and Oliver Hudson.
Currently in its fourth season, Nashville is down in the ratings once again. Compared to season three (which was also down), the show is down by 22% in the 18-49 demographic and down by 14% in viewers. It’s also one of ABC’s lowest rated dramatic series.
Back in January, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee said that there was no plans to end Nashville. The catch is that Lee was later forced out of the network. He was fired in part because he had failed to develop successful new shows and had relied too much on older ones. Many of those have slowly lost viewers and become more expensive to produce.
Lee’s replacement, Channing Dungey, has been tasked with turning the network around and that will likely mean cleaning house. ABC recently announced several renewals for the 2016-17 season and Nashville was not among them.
I suspect that ABC may decide to renew the series for a fifth and final season of 13 episodes. Hopefully, if it is decided to end Nashville this spring, the show’s creators will have found a satisfying way to end the show.
But, what do you think? Is it time for Nashville to end? Should it be renewed for a fifth (and final) season?
Keep it going! The music is fantastic
Nashville is my favorite TV show. Better than Grey’s…. Keep it going
I know Nashville has had its ups and downs, and sometimes it’s a little soapy. Still, I love the music, and I’ve come to care about many of the characters. I hope it will live on. The network needs to promote it and gain new viewers. Not only is the show good for the city of Nashville and country music, but it’s more interesting, in my opinion, than reality and crime shows.
Nashville is one of my favourite series. Please keep it going! I’ve been waiting for ages for season 5. Love the cast and the talent.
The problem with this show is that all it’s become is bad things happening to good people. There are no villlians. It’s really quite destructive and there’s really no tension between good and bad, which is essential for a drama. It’s just bad things happening to flawed but mostly likable people. I think I’m done with it as it’s now sad to watch.
My favorite drama. Love the show. Please Keep it running.
Please keep Nashville on for many more seasons it is the best show on television.. I love this show
Please keep Nashville for another season as I was born and raised here as were both my parents. When I was in high school the population of Nashville was a mere 150,000. Now its 1.4 million and rising fast and I contribute this to ABC Nashville filming here. Please do not cancel this awesome show that I have loved to watch all 4 seasons so far
Love this show, please don’t end it!! The music, the drama, it’s my guilty pleasure!
I had never watched the show until I actually worked as background. I do enjoy the show. Drama, drama, drama! I know so many people that love the show! Please don’t cancel!
I do not watch any prime time television but I DO watch Nashville every week. Love the music and the realistic story lines. Please renew!!!
A good glimpse of life and times in Tunetown
I am hooked to this show since it’s pilot. Bursting with talented cast, Nashville is such a refresher to the other predictable violent crime shows that prevail in television these days. Please ABC, renew this show! Make millions of fans and ABC viewers happy.
Renew this great show!
This is my favorite show! I look forward to it each week! Please do not cancel it!
