Happy trails. ABC has cancelled Nashville after four seasons, Deadline reports.
The country music drama, which stars Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton, is currently nearing the end of its fourth season.
The cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise. Only a few weeks ago, we reported new showrunners Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz were getting the writer’s room ready for season five and hopeful ABC would renew the series.
However, ratings have dropped over the course of the show’s fourth season. So far, Nashville is earning an average rating of .98 in the 18-49 demo and 4.221 million viewers. Comparatively, the third season averaged a 1.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.16 million total viewers.
The season four, and now series, finale of Nashville airs on May 25th.
What do you think? Do you watch Nashville? Do you think the series should’ve been renewed?
CANCELLED??!! SERIOUSLY???!!! I just paid $90 on a ticket to see the cast of Nashville in concert 3 weeks ago in Clearwater, FL – they were fantastic!! What a talented group of entertainers!! When I bought the tickets I thought they were a little expensive, but now that I know they won’t be entertaining me on next season on ABC, I’m so glad I splurged and went! This season was a little slow. I attribute the slowness and poor ratings to the multitude of reasons that previous viewers listed in prior comments. The one thing that I haven’t seen mentioned… Read more »
Please don’t end Nashville….with me having stage 3 ovarian cancer & watching TV more often this is the one series I always look forward too every week. I believe its an amazing show. It has its relationships…divorce..drama..love & so much more related into today’s world. Also it is somewhat a country show & country music & stars are bigger than ever. Also anymore on TV there is nothing but these ridiculous reality TV shows. I can’t even think of one TV show that a family can watch together…it’s all reality…crime …violence..Hospitalization…Dr’s & etc. I just rearly appreciated the show actors… Read more »

My family loves Nashville. We just love the music and seeing Nashville. It’s a shame that the shame has been cancelled. Hoping that another network picks it up. We love the characters and the story line. Please networks pick Nashville back up.!!
I love Nashville. I hate it when I get invested and it gets cancelled. Ugggg.
I bet I will just make sure that u will NEVER get into another show on ABC!
Nashville is the best show on television my family is very disappointed with the cancellation. We pray that another network picks it up
Nooooo!! I am so upset! So into the characters and the story lines. Such a shame!!!!!
I get it, Mary! I actually named my new puppy Deacon when I got him 3 years ago.. LOL
This is a great show. I have been a fan since the beginning. The best parts are about Love and the Music. The parts that I think took the ratings down is the following: Too much about pointing out accepting gay lifestyle. Pushing way too much. I was totally upset when Deacons AA sponsor broke his confidentiality. This put AA in such a bad light. Why would the writers put doubt in Someone’s mind if they ever want to reach out for help. What on earth are you guys doing to Rayna and Deacons Relationship? Their love is the core… Read more »
I so agree with all your points! Yet, I overlooked all the flawed story lines for the amazing country music. I was never a fan before this show and if all country music was like this it would have a broader appeal. But the song writers for Nashville are just amazing and have created a new fresh genre tailored to these wonderful actors/singers/musicians. If only for the music this show should not be cancelled.
Such a great show. It is my favorite TV show. I am so disappointed with it being canceled. Just unbelievable. If I was rich I would pay to keep it going.
I cannot believe ABC cancelled Nashville.
I love the show Nashville…however, that being said, this season it was moved to a later time spot which I’m sure probably had something to do with the ratings. It also seemed like it didn’t have as many episodes as it used to, yet another reason ratings would drop. I looked forward to watching it every Wednesday night but just when you got into watching the show it would take a three month break and then come back for 5 or 6 shows and now it the series finale next week. Another thing that could have lowered ratings is that… Read more »
I love Nashville, but I do not like the recent episodes about the way they are portraying people against the gay lifestyle. I have never heard a talk show host ever act and say some of the things they are saying on the show. There are successful singers that are gay…who cares…not me, but I do care about you shoving it my face and lying! That just causes more divisions in my opinion.
The show lost its way last year. Less music and more soap opera. I know it’s a drama. but a light touch of humor would have helped. There’s just so much angst. And the last straw was the extended story line of Will Lexington and his gayness. The preaching has gotten very aggravating and ridiculous. It’s like the writers are living in the 1990s. Times have changed and gays are heralded, not scorned.
Cannot believe they are cancelling this show! Who made this stupid choice? Really? Why?
I am very angry also about the cancellation. Had to be quite difficult to find such beautiful people that could act this well plus sing. Some of the songs on this show would literally cause me to stop what I was doing & just close my eyes & listen. Just outstanding combo of songs & actors. I will definitely watch if moved to another channel.
