Happy trails. ABC has cancelled Nashville after four seasons, Deadline reports.
The country music drama, which stars Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton, is currently nearing the end of its fourth season.
The cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise. Only a few weeks ago, we reported new showrunners Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz were getting the writer’s room ready for season five and hopeful ABC would renew the series.
However, ratings have dropped over the course of the show’s fourth season. So far, Nashville is earning an average rating of .98 in the 18-49 demo and 4.221 million viewers. Comparatively, the third season averaged a 1.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.16 million total viewers.
The season four, and now series, finale of Nashville airs on May 25th.

Do NOT cancel Nashville. It is my very favorite show of all TV! Take some of those silly reality shows off, and leave Nashville!
I don’t believe ABC understands the large fan base and their dedication to this great show. Someone in the ABC group is not in complete control of their senses. The Beatles were told that they didn’t have it, some people just don’t see the big picture. We as a family love the show and will truly miss the great entertainment and wonderful stars. It would be smart on ABC’s part to bring it back.

This is an awesome series, the music is beautiful and it’s not all murders and crime solving and blood . It’s clever and gripping, and ABC is crazy to cancel this show.
