In May 2016, ABC cancelled the Nashville TV series after four years. Luckily for the drama’s fans, the studio was able to make a deal with CMT to pick up season five. Now, Nashville was never a hit in the ratings on ABC but we know the numbers will surely be a lot lower on CMT, a small cable channel. Will the ratings be good enough for the series to be renewed for a sixth season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
In season five, the Nashville TV show continues to follow the lives and careers of country music superstars Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) and Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton). The rest of the CMT cast includes Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack, Jonathan Jackson, Lennon Stella, and Maisy Stella. Recurring performers are expected to include David Alford, Ed Amatrudo, Kourtney Hansen, Scott Reeves, Kyle Dean Massey, Rhiannon Giddens, Bridgit Mendler, Jen Richards, Murray Bartlett, Cameron Scoggins, Joseph David-Jones, Joanie Stewart, and Christian Coulson. Will Chase is expected to guest as Luke Wheeler.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

11/17 update: CMT has announced Nashville will end after season six on CMT. Details here.
As a lifelong non-fan of country music, I got hooked on this show from day one. It changed my view of country and showed me that it’s come a long way! I hope there is a season 6 to continue their stories. If not, thanks for the run and for exposing me to music I normally would have turned down!
I love this show and just finished balling my eyes out because Rena passed. I hope to see a season 6 to see how people have healed and lives passed this tragety. What a way to end a show if not
I love Nashville! Please continue it and don’t end it how it ended at the end of season 5!
I love Nashville! Maybe it is time for the focus to move back to Juliette and the daughters as rising stars? Please bring it back another season
I would love for the show to come back for a sixth season! It would be awesome if Rayna’s death was just someone dreaming but either way there are still people I want to watch.
Love this show and sure hope it returns, although don’t get Rayna leaving. ..entire show revolved around she and Deacon! However, curious to see how a season 6 would go! Please bring it back!
My hubby and I love Nashville. It’s got a fantastic story line and the music has been outstanding. I hope CMT renews it for Season 6.
I love Nashville and would like to see a 6th season. I watch this show on Hulu and it makes me wonder if that is factored into the ratings. I’m sure that a lot of people watch it on different platforms
Keep the show going there are still a lot of stories to be told.
Continue the show, there are still more stories to be told.
Save the show; it’s great! Why kill off Rayne?
Rayna’s death, Julliette’s whining and the no talent children of Rayna has killed this series. Sad, because I used to really enjoy the series. The only thing that can save this show is good writing and that has been missing this season and not so good last season.
I love this show! Though it was a hard hit with that death I still love the cast and wand to see the music careers take off and the future of highway 65!!!
Season 6 please
Nashville is the one series that I never miss. I want a season 6, even without Rayna.
