The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

What do you think? Have you seen the neXt TV series on FOX? Would you have watched a second season of this action-thriller series?
Late to the Party but just finished season one. Thought it was great. Searched to see of any season 2 and found this sadly. Hate how they left in on a cliff hanger and then cancel it. That sucks. Hope it returns one day.
Just now watched 4 episodes and we’re hooked! Keep this series alive!
Such a shame, has been one of the best series of 2020
I liked the show and really sad if it really does not come back. So sick of the reality stuff that just goes on and on. Same with cop shows…new ones all the time. I watch a few of those shows but thin them out with some good sci-fi.
They always cancel the good ones. This is exactly why I don’t like to watch shows created for tv/networks. How could they tell after only airing 3 episodes that this show should be canceled? My husband and I were so excited to watch this series because of the content which it was about. Such a shame and shame on you Fox once again.
Why why why It seems always the good shows get canceled & then we get stucked with other garbage that stays… I truly like this show as much as Filthy Rich.. Just when they introduce us to something fresh/new its gone..
Watched it on Hulu. It was a really good show. I am surprised it did not do better.
wife and i thought the series was great held us in every episode were both over 65 so that should tell you something
YES. We love this show. It’s like an updated “24”.
We loved Next! Great thriller and great cast! Please do another season!!!
Not another great show that gets us hooked then disappears ! We need all the intellegent entertainment we can get right now. Where does this rating data come from anyway? No one asked me!
It was a good sci-fi show, so of course the network cancelled it.
I would have watched a second season of Next.
It is a shame to cancel. Smart, intriguing, and uncomfortably probable. Very surprised there’s no season 2.
Such a shame this show got cancelled. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully Amazon prime or another network will pick it up.
