At today’s Television Critics Association presentation in Beverly Hills, FX’s president surprised many by announcing that the popular Nip/Tuck series had been cancelled. On the positive side, there are still quite a few new episodes on the way.
Nip/Tuck premiered back on July 22, 2003 and tells the story of two plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). The series mixes drama with satire and irreverent humor as the doctors take on often strange cases. Nip/Tuck was initially set in Miami, Florida but the characters moved to Los Angeles at the start of the current season, the show’s fifth. The series was recently praised by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for its ongoing use of homosexual characters.
Today, FX president/GM John Landgraf told reporters that the network had ordered 19 episodes for the drama’s sixth, and final, season. That order’s a few less than a traditional TV season but it will bring the series’ installment total to 100 episodes. Series creator Ryan Murphy will stay on board until the end as the showrunner.

When asked about the cancellation, Landgraf noted that he felt it was time and doubted that any FX show would surpass 100 episodes. He said, “If you tried to do 150 episodes of The Sopranos, you would begin to diminish the quality of those shows. The David Chases (The Sopranos) and Shawn Ryans (The Shield), they’re taking on social commentary and grand sweeping questions. If we want to go after that brass ring, we have to accept they have limited shelf life.”
Though the move may be a disappointment to devoted fans of the plastic surgeon series, casual fans won’t realize the show has been axed for some time. There are actually 27 new episodes yet to come. Only 14 episodes of the fifth season have aired thus far with the remaining eight scheduled to begin airing in January. The sixth season is expected to begin running in 2010 and not finish airing until early 2011. Stay tuned! 
This sucks! First they try and get rid of Moonlight (We fans refuse to let it go) and now this?! Who in their right mind would cancel such a great show?! I am sick and f***ing tired of this!!!!!
Don’t cancel it, for the love of GOD network (whichever one I don’t care) Don’t effing cancel it!!!!!!!

I can’t believe they are cancelling Nip/Tuck! It is by far my absolute favorite show! This makes me so sad! 🙁
hanno messo troppe cose nella quinta serie, di tutti e di pi?, pazze psicopatiche, rapimenti, reality show, lesbiche, droga, prostuzione e gigol?, e tanto tanto ancora; hanno sviluppato troppe trame differenti, rendendo tutto troppo artificioso, io da bravo appassionato l’ho seguita ugualmente, ma con un p? di delusione, perci? non sono sorpreso che l’abbiano cancellato; un grande show non deve essere spettacolare, o almeno non troppo, diventa surrealistico.

I am so upset that this show is cancelled! This is the greatest show ever. I have never been into a show this much. Every episode was interesting. It is never boring!

Wow, so disappointing, i really cant believe nip tuck will be cancelled, the best show on tv and it gets cancelled, makes no sense, i could see if no one watched, but that s not the case.
first dirt now niptuck am so upset, sometimes i wonder what will i look at next and when i do are they going to canclle it ? I swear more shows are been canclled than aired. Cant keep up anymore.
I’m sorry but this is outrageous it’s one of the best shows I have ever watched and now they’re cancelling !!!??? it’s funny, blunt, and holds absolutely nothing back….. what more could you want ??? very angry !

There are only a few shows that i watch (nip tuck, lost, october road, desperate housewives, greys anatomy) Ever since March for some reason i have pretty much cut my tv time to almost 1 hr a week if that and its because of stupid crap like this cancelling good shows (nip tuck, october road, alias, tru calling, the practice etc..) They dont even give these shows a chance and with them skipping weeks or months people forget about the shows ( not to mention that they keep switching times and days, sometimes without announcing it) im annoyed, who runs… Read more »
I can?t believe it, this is my favorite cable show and I was hoping that i could get more niptuck at least until the 2013
It’s canceled, but they’re going to take three years to finish it. I’m tired of programs stretching out their seasons over 18 months (Lost, Battlestar Galactica, etc.) They wait so long to start the next season that I barely remember (or care) when it finally airs. If you’ve got 8 eps, start airing them not–8 months from now. Then shoot and show season 6 in 2009-2010. Good grief.
i am so tired of these networks cancellng my shows!!! first the 4400 and now Nip/tuck. in a minute im going to stop watching tv!!!!! this is truelly some B.S.!!!
