The Powells may have super powers but they weren’t strong enough to save their TV series. No Ordinary Family has been cancelled after one season on the air.
No Ordinary Family revolves around suburban family who, while on vacation, crash into Amazon River and gain special abilities. The cast includes Michael Chiklis, Julie Benz, Autumn Reeser, Jimmy Bennett, Kay Panabaker, Tate Donovan, Christina Chang, and Romany Malco.
The drama had a decent debut last September with a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.69 million total viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings didn’t stay at that level and dropped by 16% in week two and then 15% in week three. The numbers kept declining and went as low as a 1.2 demo rating and just 4.26 million viewers in March.

The network cut the episode order but it was already clear by that point that the show was finished. ABC pre-empted one installment and bumped the penultimate episode to Saturday nights, an evening when few are watching. The first season of No Ordinary Family ended up averaging a 1.8 in the demo and 6.4 million viewers, making it one of the lowest dramas of the ABC season.
ABC has now officially cancelled No Ordinary Family. All 20 episodes have aired. Hopefully, at some point, the producers will share what they had planned for the future of the series.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season for No Ordinary Family? Why do you think the series didn’t catch on?

Well ABC is saying that making $10 Million in revenue isnt enough to keep a show going when they can make $15. That’s the thinking, thanks ABC really appreciate your keeping up with the fans. I quit on the main TV channels (ABC NBC CBS FOX), they have a show that some people are interested in then just cancel it because they can’t make enough on it. It’s back to watching Discovery and the like for me, their series may be short, but at least the information is interesting.
If anyone can think of a way to start a petition for this show it would be really great. I really want to see George’s new powers and what is in store for Katie and Joshua with the baby.
thought this was a brill series, slow to start but really picked up was looking forward to season 2 Please re consider
Where do I start? Just wondering if ABC is trying to commit suicide. I realize off the map didn’t have much room to grow but NOF did, I have taken ABC off my satellite subscription , if they can’t stop breaking our hearts then I wont pay them a penny.
This is the type of reaction you expect whenever you watch a decent show(if you can find one) on one of the regular channels. That is why I usually watch quality shows on USA or FX or many of the cable channels. Look at USA channel – Fairly Legal is a great new show…did not get the great ratings but is a quality show….so at least they are giving it a second season to catch on and I know that it will. ABC, CBS or NBC just keeps cranking out useless programming or make it so suggestive that you can… Read more »
Very dissappointed that this show was cancelled. Watched it religiously every week. Was really looking forward to finding out how they got their powers, and was really looking how Lucy Lawless developed her character as the villain. Very good show. Clean, Healthy, And all American.
OMG i am sooo upset! This is such a dumb idea! GOD what the heck!? Why would you cancel the best show in the world!? I enjoyed it, I really am upset it won’t be playing. 🙁 I hate you, ABC!
Finally A decent show that didn’t have sex as a drivng force and you cancel it. Way to go. What are you going to replace it with. The Charlie Sheen Family Hour!
I agree with Sian and Rhiannon. Why not move the show to a different slot rather than prime time viewing. 4 Million people is a lot of fans to leave disgruntled and is that worldwide or just the figures for America? I’ve been watching the show in the UK and I know a few people that have been watching it every week. Very disapointed that there are no plans to make a 2nd series and that it has been left on such a cliff hanger with so many unanswered questions. At least think about making a feature length episode to… Read more »
It could have had potential but never picked up the pace, should have not focused on holding back to long, that is what happens when you make a show targeted at children while adults have the remote.
NOF and Flash forward! Our family will be checking in future if the show is an ABC show before we commit to watching it. If they have to stop a show they could at least not leave a cliff hanger!! Dad’s Army (yes I am that old) wasn’t a success in its first season either, then look how it did!! they are losing custom in the long term by this attitude. I agree with my daughter who thinks people would have got into the swing of it once the second or third season started, I am enjoying Fringe but didn’t… Read more »
I believe ABC was a stong contributor to the demise of NOF. Maybe what we need is yet another talent/reality show! Maybe then you can appeal to the dumb masses that drive your programming.
I swear to god ABC are mental that was by far one of the best TV shows i have ever watched.
4 million views isn’t exactly low. And to say that they put it on at the same time as some of the giants, what the hell are they thinking
what a gigantic bunch of balls…ruined my day
