As expected, CBS has pulled the plug on their long-running drama, Numb3rs. A mainstay of the Friday night schedule, brothers Charlie and Don Eppes won’t be back next fall with a seventh season.
Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise, especially when you look at the figures.
The ratings have dropped quite a bit in recent years. Last season fell to an average of a 2.2 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 10.2 million total viewers. This season, the ratings dropped further still, to a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers. CBS cut the show’s episode order from 22 to 16 installments last fall. While the official word was that CBS had an overflow of original programming, networks don’t usually cut the orders of successful shows.

The cast and crew filmed what could serve as a series finale and Morrow and Krumholtz signed on for new TV show pilots. While the actors would be contractually obligated to return to Numb3rs if CBS decided to renew it, ABC and FOX were confident that they wouldn’t.
Last week, it was confirmed that the show’s sets were being dismantled, another sign that Numb3rs was finished. CBS has now made the cancellation official.
On the positive side, Morrow will return next fall in a new series for ABC called The Whole Truth. He’ll play an attorney opposite Joely Richardson. Unfortunately, Krumholtz’s comedy pilot, Tax Man, was not picked up by FOX for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Are you satisfied with the way that Numb3rs ended? What will you miss about the show? Will you give The Whole Truth a try?

Numbers was great such a pity it is being cancelled.
This is a great show. I record it everyday it is on. Any chance the series could be resurrected on another channel?
I love this show why would you cancel it
CBS sucks,I still watch watch at least one episode of numb3rs every day.love the show but then cbs ALWAYS makes bad decisions,at least they could give the fans a special catch up episode
I don’t get why you had to take off the show numb3rs! I mean just because the ratings dropped doesn’t mean to discontinue it! There is plenty of people out there who love that show, the actors, plots etc there was no reason to take it away and then cut out almost half of them. Maybe if you had another season or had a new character or even a huge plot twist like both of the Eppes brothers were on there deathbeds side by side in the hospital after protecting each other and they barely make it. I don’t know… Read more »
Roxy, CBS cancelled Numb3rs in 2010…You are currently watching reruns so there is nothing for them to reconsider…
They always take the good ones off eventually and leave the idiot ones on for decades. This one made you think a little. Maybe that’s the problem.
It as a great show, great cast, unique plots and story line, or at least a different perspective. Typically, network corporate clones cancelled it.
I can’t believed they cancelled numb3rs. It may not be your “top rated”, but there is more then enough people that still love the show to gain profit. Just because you are not gaining millions and millions of dollars does not mean the show isn’t worth continuing! To gain more views you have to comply with the viewers wants. Just because the fan base isn’t as high as you wish it to be doesn’t mean that you can’t gain more viewers. In reality show biz is just like corporations. When they have a couple bad years they don’t just throw… Read more »

You would make so many fans happy if you brought it back. PLEASE WE BEG YOU TO BRING IT BACK!
I LIKED THE SHOW TOO, AND I CAN ONLY HOPE YOU WERE EXAGGERATING WHEN YOU SAID YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT THE SHOW. YOU KNOW ITS NOT REAL, RIGHT????????????????????????????????/
please bring Numb3rs back the show has taught me to love maths I am truly saddened by its cancellation
I am season five and dreading ending it. Sure, I have several other shows to binge, Doctor Who, Green Arrow, and Supernatural being a few, but honestly I enjoy Numb3rs most. I’ve fallen for the characters, I love seeing Charlie work (and I’ve hated math for years. This show sent me to the mathematics section of the library), and the realistic feeling of it all was incredibly refreshing and natural. I should doubt I’ll ever find anything remotely that good in another show and it hurts knowing it’ll end soon.
I love this show Numb3rs I hate to see it end. Just because the numbers fell on TV does not mean anything. Some people have busy lives and cant watch it on TV . I have to watch it on Netflix when I have time. I don’t like it when they leave us hanging.
I really liked this show. I thought the idea of using math in a show as a fantastic one. I am really going to miss it. I binge watched on Netflix and I am really going to miss it.
I really enjoyed this show. There are so many that don’t come near it. Too bad.
Numb3rs was one of the most interesting and entertaining shows on tv. A lot more cerebral than most others giving the viewer more to think about whilst actually learning something. I particularly enjoyed Charlie’s explanation of the fibonacci sequence in S1 and the shocking revelation at the end of S3. We need more of the Eppes family, perfectly cast as it was, with its creative and factual writing and thoroughly interesting characters.
I’m truly addicted to this show…I’m almost finished with the seasons on Netflix!! What am I going to do when I’m done!! Numb3rs really should come back, David Krumholtz, Rob Morrow, and all the other actors play these characters so well!! I don’t like math but I’m all for numb3rs
I love the show. Used to stay up until 4am watching reruns. Cannot find it on Rabbit TV or Netflix. HELP! THANKS!
Hulu has it
Netflix has it. Watching it right now
