While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

Numb3rs is an awesome show. Its one of the few shows I actually watch. I look forward to it every week, it would be ashame if it was cancelled. For a show to run 6 years, it definitely has a fan base, I’m sure theres no way another show would get the viewers numb3rs get. Please reconsider cancelling it. It would be a big loss.
Please do not cancel. It is one of the few shows that my husband and I watch together because it is intelligent television. There are so few great shows on that appeal to educated people. Please do not disappoint us!
Maybe this intelligent and entertaining show can be replaced by a reality show such as “America’s Stupidest People” or “Who’s Gas Smelss Worst”.
CBS must not cancel this show.
Please don’t cancel NUMB3RS. My husband and I love it along with Ghost Whisper. I agree with the statement someone else made that Medium hurt both of these great shows. The reality shows and some of the supposedly comedey shows are for people who don’t want to think or get invovled in a good story line. CBS don’t blow it keep the good shows.
This is the only show worth watching on Friday nights!!! Before we got DVR we actually made our arrangements to go out around watching Numbers first!!!! Love this show!!! Love the main characters and this is so sad to know – it seems that anytime a great show is on it gets canceled!!! I hate reality shows–only lonely stupid people watch them and kids!!!! Please don’t replace it with reality!!!!! Please reconsider Numbers!!! As far as viewers go – Friday nights are always tough because that is date night, party, etc!!! Most single folks go out!!!! Move it to Monday… Read more »
numbers is one of my favorite shows if i don’t see it i catch it i get it on demand love the whole plot line with brother helping out, but even would tke Peter Mcnicholas as Charley
I would like to see a 7th season. I love this show. I love the charcters and when my child says that math will do them no good in life I suggest he watch this show. I just love it and would hate to see thrown away. Good shows are so few and when we get one that is high above the rest the network wants to cancel.
I will quit using my DVR if you will keej Numbers on.
Do NOT cancel Numb3rs…. Why cancel good shows like THE UNIT, WITHOUT A TRACE, MOONLIGHT, JERICHO — BRING THEM BACK !! Put Cold case on a better night so I can actually see or or DVR the whole show and not miss the ending.. You messed up other shows because of this.. Better yet CBS wake up either put two 1/2 hour shows on Sunday that can be canceled when football runs over time or schedule the extra hour for football and if it doesn’t go over then have a short comedy or 1/2 talk show… Get RID of Amazing… Read more »
They can’t cancel Numb3rs it is my favorite Tv show and it is the show that explains very smart math in a simple way. My dad got me hooked on it because he thought it was an easy way of explaining math in a cool way. If they cancel Numb3rs all I will have is Fringe and that is nothing compared to Numb3rs.
Do NOT cancel NUMB3RS or Ghost Whisperer !!!! it is a great show I look forward to it every week. It has great plots. All the actors work well with each other there is Family, Friendship humor, caring, emotions, and intelligence. — I would love to see Charley and Amita have a baby and see Charley trying to deal with that along with Uncle Don Grandpa and Uncle Larry. All the math around that along with the side stories it has had over the years. I agree with some others, I think Medium hurt Numb3s and Ghost Whisperer. There were… Read more »
I have watched Numb3rs since it started. I will be very disappointed if it is canceled. It is a show that the entire family can watch and there are very few of those left. Please cancel some of the brainless so called comedies and leave a show that at least shows some intelligence in its script writing.
I have to agree!!!!
Our family loves this show!! My daughter has been so intrigued by Numb3rs that she wants to study MATH ALL the time!! Our country needs to be focused on education and to be able to sit down and enjoy a ‘family’ show together and to have her walk away yearning to study math and all that it has to offer…well, you can understand my frustration. Out of all the shows to cancel, this would not be the one in our opinion!
Don’t Go! Please. I love this show!
I love Numbers. Yes I would be upset if it was cancelled. I have watched Flashpoint and it has no interest for me, too formulated. It seems anything on tv with any type of intelligent format is cancelled, like Jericho and on NBC, Studio 60. Meanwhile, ridiculous shows such as New Christine and How I Met Your Mother keep on coming back. No wonder I watch fewer and fewer shows, there just aren’t many quality shows left. Let’s hear it for the networks.
I find that Numbers is the only intellegent show on the three networks that I watch. Cancel it, and I will probably go to music only satillite radio. The “reality” shows are and insult to education. The networks have dropped too far below the bar, and without shows like Numbers they can forget my weekly support.
