While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

I really hope Numbers is not cancelled. I look forward to watching it onFriday nights. I will be very disappointed if it goes of the air:(
Numbers is the only show worth watching on Friday nights it would be a shame to cancel such a good show.
I sincerely hope they do not cancel Numb3rs. That is one of the reasons I have continued to watch CBS on Friday nights. It has consistantly had good story lines and I enjoy the characters very much. If this is on the chopping block I really hope CBS reconsiders their decision.
I have always looked forward to Friday nights and particularly to watching “Numbers”. I will be so sad if the show is cancelled. I liked that it had a different story line and was not more of the same ol’ same ol’. It is hard for me to understand why it would be cancelled.
I , for one, enjoyed every show. The characters were interesting and I didn’t get tired of it. The plots were also well-conceived. It will be a shame if it is over, but it was a great series! I hope they can think of another series using Rob Morrow. I also really like Charlie, but not sure if he hasn’t been typecast in this role.
Don’t watch much TV, but love Numbers. You’d be dumb to cut this show. All the reality stuff on TV now is bad bad bad. Keep Numbers – intelligent and well done by the actors.
This is an intelligent, interesting show and I watch it all the time. Please don’t cancel it.
I hope CBS comes to it’s senses and picks up the show weather I’m at home or I dvr it, it’s the only show worth watching on Friday night.
This is an excellent program. It would be a great lose to cancel such a good program. An intellectual NCIS. Good vibe between the characters, interesting story lines.
A very well written show with good story lines and personal touches. Please keep it on.
Of course my husband and I would be disappointed! As two geeky engineers, this is one of our favorite shows. It’s a fairly clean show as TV shows go these days, and we like that too!
My 14 year old has seen every episode and will greatly miss this show.
i love this show..it would be terrible to take it off the air ..my daughter and i watch it together shes 25 and refers to it as our show
please dont cancel one of the only shows that me & my kids can watch. Its a perfect blend of comedy, family, & drama so everyone gets what they want. My kids think its possible to become what you want to by watching this show. The cast is amazing & rarely do you find a show that all characters are important to a story.. it would be a shame to lose it.
Numb3rs is by far the best story on TV. Really hope the network doesn’t cancel the only show I watch on CBS!
