While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

This has been the best Friday night show in quite a long time. I came to this sight to see & HOPE to find out that there will be more seasons to come.
This has been my family’s all time Friday night show! I sure do hate that they are wanting to cancel it. It is full of excitement, mystery and the characters are like family! I agree with the comment mentioned above. I too wonder if they are taking into consideration the fact that we have the capability to TVO and record in order to watch it later. With all of the yuck that is on TV now, it is a shame that they are wanting to cut a great one!
REALLY ENJOY THE SHOW!!! I watch the show every week and look forward to it.
if you can numbers then whats the point of watching a good and original drama show. this show rocks and i always look forward to watching it and i live in australia. CBS keep it on as it is a very good show to watch. if you base what stays on and what doesnt by the numbers it get from viewers, dont the people that watch it have a say. i watch it every week with out fail and i look forward to the next eppsiode like every one else. change its time slot to a week night not on… Read more »
Numbers is an AMAZING show! They must keep it on and not cancel it. It would be a real shame if they did.
Are there going to be any intelligent shows left for those of us with any intelligence? Numbers is a great show that appeals to me and everyone else I know with a brain. I’m sure the network is chomping at the bit to put on something new… like a reality show. Yeah, that would be great for the mindless idiots that seem to be infecting our society. What a waste. Maybe we should just give up TV and read instead. It seems TV really is turning into an “idiot box” run by idiots at the networks!
DON’T TAKE OFF THE AIR IT’S A GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It figures!!! A good shoe replaced by another hospital series, ;m so far past them. You people are so dense I bdon’t even know why I watch TV anymore.
I’m a professor in a math-oriented field, so naturally I like Numb3rs. Ratings have lagged impact. That is, last years ratings are reflected in this year’s programs. The 2009 programs seemed less pitched at a ‘”Nerd-audience” and more toward a night-time sex-and-soap orientation. Recent ratings say that didn’t work. History of the series says that the second-year series had the best-recieved format. I agree with that. By the way, it helps if the math-science content is realistic and correct, but I recognize this requires very skilled dumbing-down for a more general audience. This was pretty well-done in the earlier programs,… Read more »
I love that show!! I look forward to it every week. I’ve enjoyed how the relationships have developed, how they solve the crimes. It is one of those shows where you can’t predict what is going to happen. Why you have to take the good shows off and leave us with those crappy reality shows. Please work to get it back on.
I would be very disappointed to see Numbers cancelled. It is one of the few shows that I can watch over and over again. It is also the only show that I have purchased all the past seasons on DVD.
One of things that disappoints is that the ratings are based on the what is being watched. I am not always able to watch it but with cable they give you the ability to watch the show at anytime (prime time on demand) wonder if this is being taken into account or what people are dvr’ing or taping.
Well written, entertaining and educational. Keep the show! It’s our Friday night tradition.
I can’t believe they are canceling Numbers! It is one of two or three shows my husband and I really love. We aren’t always home on Friday nights and don’t always get around to recording it, but if we were home, you can bet we were watching it. I will feel about it as some do their Soaps–if it isn’t on, I will wonder what would be happening to its characters.
WHAT A WONDERFUL SHOW! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT. IT’S ORIGINAL AND THE ONLY SHOW I LOOK FORWARD TO ON FRIDAY NIGHT. I WOULD WATCH IT ON ANY NIGHT IT VIEWED. KEEP IT ON!!!!!!
I really like the show and the cast. I would be very sad to know the show has been cancelled.
i very much enjoy the show and would miss it.
When they finally get a good show and then want to let it go. It is crazy and I think that it is a very bad idea.
