Nurse Jackie ended its 80 episode run on Showtime back in June, and Edie Falco is now enjoying some time off before she finds her next project, and fans of the actress could see her back on the small screen in another series at some point. She loves television.
Falco spoke about the end of Nurse Jackie in an interview with The Los Angeles Times, and she looks at the end of the series very differently than she would have if she would have been younger.
She said:
“Early on I said, “If this is going to be a show about an addict — though it’s about a lot of things — it has to have real ramifications for her behavior.” She’s hurting people, she’s hurting herself, she’s getting older and I wanted at least to some extent mirror my experience with addiction, not just my personal one but addicts I’ve known and to take it seriously as an issue. I thought early on she probably shouldn’t make it.”
She realized Jackie’s end on the series is left open-ended, and she made it clear that was a decision made by the people behind the series.
What does the future hold for Falco? She spoke about the possibility of returning to television. She said:
“Sure. I love it. It’s a real job, someplace you can show up consistently. It suits me. You wouldn’t think this career choice would lend itself to consistency, but it does.”
Would you want to see Edie Falco on another series? Do you miss Nurse Jackie? Tell us what you think.
I just watched Nurse Jackie’s two last episodes. I had to cry when I saw what happened to her. What she did to herself and to people who cared about her. It was shocking and touching. Great actors and everything very well done. Really heavy stuff, these addictions. I would’ve liked to know how it went – did she die or did the story have a happy ending? It didn’t seem to go that direction. Goodbye, Nurse J. You had one passion – no, you had two strong passions in your life, your work in the Saint’s Hospital and, unfortunately,… Read more »

I’m addicted to nurse Jackie! and ZOEY! (sorry couldn’t resist the pun) Seriously I love it. All the characters on the show are so inspirational. There is no character on the show who I didn’t fall in love with, except the Norwegian. I’m a nursing student and I fully plan to binge watch every episode all over again after I graduate. Thank you to the writers, the cast, the crew, and Zoey especially. Love Jessy
