ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

I love this show I really hope they don’t cancel it. I like it better then any of the medical shows. I am really sad this was becoming my favorite show. : (
I think that ‘Off the Map’ is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I would hate to see it get cancelled. I don’t have a lot of time to watch t.v. but I made sure that I did not miss any episodes! I really enjoy the plot and the stories about the “misfit” doctors and how they grow in a new world! It let’s me break away from reality for an hour a week. Please bring it back next year!!
I love off the map I just think it didn’t get enough publicity. I think it should be kept around for another season and put in private practice time slot for a few weeks and once it grabs some viewers it’ll be fine. It’s such a good show i hope it makes it another season
Please do not cancel this show!! I looked forward to Wednesday nights! I never missed an episode. Detroit 187 was good too.

The show is great, I look forward to it. It shows real life in medical settings. ABC should promote the show more to get viewer interest. I barely seen any promos and if they would maybe there would be more viewers. I hope the show is given another chance.
TV ratings must be a very important issue. Keeping the viewers happy is also a very important issue. Without the viewers, the networks don’t have an audience. Please try to make the viewers happy and entertain us with wonderful dramas like Off the Map. Please give this show the earlier time slot it deserves so many more viewers can tune in and make the ratings larger and your audience happier. Thanks
They always say a persons character is his destiny… well, I say the same with his awesome drama Off the Map. It has incredible character and the ability to move all of these viewers to take their precious time out to vote for this show, should be the deciding factor on it’s future. Please hear all of our voices and give this wonderful well written show a second season and it will not disappoint the network. Not everyone likes reality shows and there are too many on in my opinion. I would be lost w/o Off the Map. Thank you.
This is my new favorite which, of course, means it will be cancelled. I’m still whining over losing Jericho. Drop Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, first – stopped watching them ages ago.
Oh no, please don’t cancel Off The Map! My family, friends, and I think it’s a great series, very different from every other drama (and medical drama) that we’ve seen so far. It is a wonderful change, a great show! It has our thumbs up here in NZ !!…

As soon as my cousin called me and said she seen a magazine that said Off The Map was cancelled I had to get online and see if it was true. I hope not we love the show (my cousin and I) my uncle even loves it and its hard to get him to like any series. I think the show should be brought back. Some people I talked to watched it a couple of times and loved it but could not stay up till 10 to watch due to work the next day. So I would fill them in… Read more »

I love this show and look forward to the new exciting scenarios each week. Its my favorite show thus far and would love to continue watching it every Wednesday. I have to watch this every week.
I hope you don’t cancel this show. It is the best show on TV right now and like others, we count the days until it is to be on again! Great cast and beautiful setting there in Hawaii (opps, South America). Most of our family are the same as my wife and myself, and cnat wait to see the next episode.
