ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

this is the best show….. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! im addicted to greys but i watched the first episode of off the mapp and well im hooked! i didnt like how the season eneded but i didnt even know it was the end of the season.
they better not cancel off the map its a great funny show that i look forward to watching it. WHY DONT THEY CANCEL REALITY SHOWS OR BIGGEST LOSER!!!!!

I watched every single episode. I absolutely love it! I really don’t care what people say. In matter of fact it was filmed down the street to where I live. shows like this and Hawai’i Five-O brings toursist attractions and I love how they were shooting at the place where I used to go swimming at. Please don’t cancel it. I’m tired getting in to a show and than find out its getting cancelled. I love all the characters..
My husband and I absolutely LOVE Off the Map. We’re both public school teachers and think that this show is a good example of people doing humanitarian work. The youth in the world that we live in today need this role model far more than ever. Plus, it’s just great entertainment. It’s not the typical med. show that takes place in a hospital–it’s much more interesting! And Mamie Gummer –Meryl Streeps daughter! ABC has got to keep this one on the air–otherwise I think we outta protest!
i hope they dont cancel this show i realoly love it. Very different besides the same old stories on any of the other hospital shows they have had in the past and present. Serious how many times do we need to watch some kid get hurt in a wreck or people and their soap lives. Let’s watch something different with a differnt setting. This show is by far the best and just as good and catching as ER.
Love this show, makes me cry almost everytime and I’m not normally a crying type. Can really connect to the relationships here. The only show I really care to watch right now. Definately a keeper!
I love the show…ABC can’t cancel it….
Canceling a show that was hardly advertised because it didn’t get ratings is stupid. I really like this show and it is the only weekly drama I even watch. My only complaint is too many commercials it half the hour show and that’s probably why the ratings have been low. I can’t even watch it at it’s regular time I record it on my DVR just to fast forward to the show. Canceling Off The Map is a mistake just give it more story time each show and advertise it. It is a winner!

I didn’t like this show at first, but I kept watching it because other shows I watch weren’t on at that time of year. I thought it was predictable and a little too gory for me. But by the end of the season, I was surprised that I was enjoying the escape and even caring about some of the characters, especially Tommy and Mina. this show. Great cast, Great writers. Wonderful setting, nice storyline. Pleas don’t cancel the show. It deserves some attention…..a second season with the right promos!

Please please please do not cancel this show. It’s all I have to look forward to on Wednesdays. Move the time up and more people would watch! This show is not the ordinary doctor show. It’s way more interesting. Bring it back please!!!
I enjoyed Off the Map. It was refreshing to see new faces, the plots were interesting. The fact that it takes place in a jungle is the greatest and the music was dramatic. I hope this series IS NOT CANCELLED.
