ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

its my familys fav. it so different to whats on ..and i hate reality tv with a passion.

Please, please, PLEASE, don’t cancel the show! I love it and the plot is remarkable. It’s a change from all the regular hospital shows that we have been watching all these years. Maybe the viewer count was so low because of all the different ways that are available to watch the show. They should consider how people watch shows online most of the time now or they have it recorded to watch it later.
Please don’t cancel!! This is one of the best new shows in quite some time. I looked forward to it all week, and it’s a great way to finish of a good evening of tv with the comedies on earlier. I’d be so bummed to see it go 🙁
I love Off the Map. I think the problem is ABC needs to get behind it. Granted the season played complete with no interruptions or repeats. Why not also move Private Pratice to the Wed. night slot Off the Map has and move Off the Map to Thursday night. Let Gray’s work it’s magic and give the show true fighting chance?
I loved this show. My kids in texas watched it too. Don’t cancel it. It is better than slot of other junk that is on tv. I have been trying to find it the last two weeks

The scenery is breathtaking. The script has freshness and variety by following multiple characters in realistic character strugles. The ending could be called a clift-hanger. It seems the fact that it was the final episode for the season was not well
publicized, hence the low rating. It seems it followed a couple of weeks of no show because of tournaments or Award shows. GIVE US MORE!
Does the rating figure in how many people pre record thier tv shows. I use my DVR on a daily basis and record my shows and watch them at different times. I know more than a hand full of people who do the same thing as me. If the networks can’t detect pre recordings then I think the rating would be much higher on many shows.
So hopefully this show doesnt get cancelled.
Are you frickin serious?! This show is one of the best shows on television! Maybe it’d have better ratings if it were on a non-idol (American Idol) night! This show better be back!

I didn’t even know the last episode was the finale. I have watched every episode faithfully & it would definetly be a shame if the show got canceled. Its a fantasic show, to compare it to “No Ordinary Family” is a sure insult.
