ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

Please don’t cancel this show! It’s on of my favorites. I agree with another comment about it being a fresh drama about doctors. As a Natural Health Consultant I LOVED the natural remedies used in the show. It just goes to show that the alternative healthcare is valid and has a place in medicine. Don’t leave us hanging!
PLEEEEEASE bring it back !!! I was a late viewer but Im all cuaght up and need to see more. The suspence and the crazy medical ideas using herbal remedies and druging patients with heroin AHHHH I love it !!!!!

It doesn’t look good but shows that are “unique” in some way are sometimes but rarely saved by viewers who write to the network. I hear the final decision will come by May 17th so there is not much time left. Some of the stars of “Off the Map” are hedging their bets and signing up for new pilots. I love this show!! I searched out the older episodes that weren’t on Hulu yet just so that I could watch it. I hope they bring it back next season because there were so many things left unanswered!! Please, ABC, renew this show!!!!!
Really hope this gets renewed – stories are fresh and exciting. Sorry I don’t get to watch it “live” but I haven’t missed a single week. Please renew!
Off The Map must not be cancelled. it is garnteed to attract more viewers with time, just wait. Far better then any show on television. Plus the fact that almost every review is positive, there is no reason to destroy a perfectly good show.
I really enjoyed this show and the characters. You need a touch of humour in a drama and this showed did that well. I hope it is renewed for another year.
I loved this show.. I was always in bed when it started but I watched every episode on VOD the next day! I was very surprised to find out it had such low ratings. I thought it was a great series and I usually don’t watch many series. I thought it had the perfect mix of drama with a twist real life humor. I hope to see it next year!
I agree with many others, this series is very refreshing and every week I look forward to the new episode, don’t even mind watching the reruns. Appears to be doing better then any other show in it’s time slot but they are comparing to ratings of other nights? Renew it please!

I am really hoping that Off The Map returns. I DVR’d it each week because of the time slot, but always took time to watch it.
I was looking forward to the next episode and I couldn’t find it anywhere. Please don’t cancel its the only program that I look forward to in the week besides CSI when I’m not working 16-18hrs/day. Nowadays with technology and a fast paced world you don’t get to see alot of tv so its a real treat to see your favs and Off the Map is one of mine.
Really hope Off The Map returns! It’s so nice to have a different story line that isn’t yet another version of a police drama, or standard hospital drama. The characters are interesting and the setting is a fresh change from the usual shows. Please keep it on!
