The ladies on Orange Is the New Black can expect to spend a lot more time in prison. Netflix has renewed their popular series for three years — seasons five, six, and seven. Season four is scheduled to debut on June 17th.
As part of the deal, showrunner Jenji Kohan has committed to remain with the series through season seven. It’s not known which castmembers will be sticking around that long.
In a statement, Kohan said, “Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, ‘May you lead an interesting life,’ is a curse, but I don’t live in those cultures… Here’s to keeping it interesting. Thanks Netflix! Both thanks and you’re welcome Lionsgate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers… with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. Three more years! Three more years!”
Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content, added. “Jenji and her team have produced a phenomenal and impactful series that is both funny and dramatic, outrageous and heartfelt. Audiences around the world have come to love the ladies and men of ‘Orange is the New Black,’ and we are eager to see where three more seasons will take them.”
What do you think? Do you enjoy Orange Is the New Black on Netflix? Is this big renewal a good idea or is it too much?
The most overrated show on TV ever, if you want a good female prison show watch Wentworth.
This show has dropped in quality consistently since season 1 and I don’t see it improving, Season 3 was especially bad.
Ehh, I enjoy the show, but not too excited about this. I have seen too many shows stay on long past their peak. Five seasons is an ideal length for most shows. The third season was definitely the weakest, IMO. Maybe it’ll be better next year.
This is FANTASTIC !!!! This show is so good, and I am thrilled to be able to look forward to 4 more seasons !! I hope they continue it even longer – there is end to the stories here…
You’re claim is that there is no end to the stories, but can you specify your reasoning?
