In August of last year, Starz renewed Outlander for a second season after only one episode of the series had aired. Now, there are rumors that season two has been cancelled. What’s going on?
The Outlander series revolves around Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945. She finds herself mysteriously thrown back in time, to 1743 Scotland, and forced to marry another man to save her life. A passionate affair is ignited. The rest of the cast includes Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Annette Badland, Stephen Walters, Laura Donnelly, Lotte Verbeek, James Fleet, Duncan Lacroix, Roderick Gilkison, Simon Callow, Grant O’Rourke, Bill Paterson, and Simon Meacock.
As fans of the series know all too well, Outlander is currently on hiatus. Starz decided to split the first season’s 16 episodes into two groups. The first eight finished airing in late September and the second set will begin running on April 4th. It’s a long wait but the Outlander TV show will certainly be back.
While the show doesn’t draw big ratings, it’s doing very well for Starz. The audience grew quite a bit over the course of the first eight episodes. The mid-season finale drew 1.42 million viewers — nearly twice as many as watched the series debut. Networks and cable channels really like to see that kind of trend.
It seems that the cancellation rumor stems from a site called National Report which creates fictional stories with just enough credible information in them to make them believeable.
Starz has not cancelled their plans for a second season of Outlander. The cable channel is heavily promoting the second half of the first season and Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has also confirmed that the cancellation is a hoax.
This month, executive producer Ronald D. Moore confirmed that filming of season two will begin in May. The story will take some of the characters to another country but production will continue to be based in Scotland.
Here’s a preview for the rest of season one, as well as a preview scene:
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the return of Outlander?
Shame on you for scaring the bejesus out of me – and on my birthday, too! I loved the tale since it’s first publication, and it’s one of the (very) few books to screen productions that is truly wonderfully done. Kudos to Ron Moore, crew, and cast. And thanks, Diana!
I’m enthralled with the Series. I’m glad it has not cancelled. I really enjoy it.
Most of tv is boring. I still watch the reruns of Outlander and I’m almost finished reading the last book. The books are so exciting and I’m glad I saw the episodes first so that I have a face to put with each character. The actors are sensational and the books are what’s keeping me until April. If anyone out there hasn’t read the books please do.
As they say in North Carolina, these days, “damn skippy!” I am enjoying the series immensely almost as much as the books. Good casting, authentic, well chosen scenes and passages from incredibly detailed books. Please take the story all the way through
I sad that their may not be a 2nd season of out lander. If they don’t bring it back I am canceling Stars. They did this for Camlot and both these series are wonderful. I even thought about canceling Star until they bought it back in April to finish season 1. I am still so confused to why such a long break on season 1. So weirded. For once keep the good shows. And try to bring back CAMLOT.
The reason I purchased Starz was because of the Outlander series. I think they’ve done a grateful job of staying true to the novel. I will continue to keep Starz as long as they continue with Outlander and onto subsequent books in the series. After that, I doubt if there will be much of a reason for me to pay for the channels.
Are you Joking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
They’ve had me waiting too long as it is..
Love this series… Can’t wait to see how it unfolds and if it is going to continue to stay so close to the books…
Diana did an amazing job with this series it’s one that I have read over and over and over and over again…
🙂 LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
My Wife and I just watched the first 8 episodes on demand. Both loved it.Looking forward to the rest of the Show.
I have been eagerly anticipating the next 8 episodes of the show, and really feel that is not nearly enough to satiate my desire to watch the show. I love the concept, the actors, and the writing. That is not something I can say about every show that is currently on tv, cable or network.
We love, love this series! We are waiting axiously for the next part to start up in April! I can’t tell you how much we have enjoyed this show and want to thank Starz for giving us a reason to watch TV again. Plus were really exicited to find out that there will be a second season! The series had picked up a great following. Great story and very talented actors! Love the Outlander!
For some reason I’m sure I watched the show, however I cannot remember it. I will go to my ON DEMAND and review then e-mail another comment,
I have been more drawn to Outlander than any other show or movie-ever. After watching (and re-watching, and re-watching…) the first part of TV series, I began reading the books- I am now on book 6. I hope this series will continue for as many years as it takes to tell the story. I love the cast, acting, direction. It is simply the best.
We love this show and are happy Season 1 episodes will resume in August 2015. And PLEASE give us Season 2! You already canceled PERCEPTION and DALLAS … don’t cancel another one of your good shows.
Yeah! Glad this one wasn’t cancelled… The story is new & different w/a wonderful cast. But I agree w/Meg… I hate that Perception was cancelled. Another show that that was very new & different.
Oh, man, when I saw your headline I about had a heart attack. That’s not nice to do to old ladies!!!!
