First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.

My husband and I are both disappointed as we thought that Outlaw was among the best of the new shows that premiered this season. We don’t care for the ‘so called’ reality shows and like “Debbie” who posted previously we are sick to death with all of the Law & Orders, and were dumbfounded when you actually came out with still another one this season. I loved Outlaw. I just started watching evening tv again this year and was so happy to see some shows that weren’t reality or news shows (or endless trashy sitcoms). Making a decision based on 4 episodes is ridculous. I had only figured out what night you moved it to and then it was gone. STUPID. You definitely won’t get me to watch Dateline!
I liked the show a lot. Jimmy Smits is a terrific actor and it was interesting to see him as a flawed character. The supporting cast was also good. Why do I think it was cancelled…easy, a lousy time slot and no patience to let the audience build.
NBC makes the worst decisions. It puts most of the best shows on too late at night and doesn’t promote any of the good ones. I am sick to death of Law and Order – ???. Very soon there won’t be anything that I’ll want to watch on your station.

I am so disappointed that Outlaw is being cancelled. I love Jimmy Smits. There are so many other shows that don’t deserve the time they take up.
What a loss.
Friday night was a bad night for an adult audience. My friends and colleagues were going to their children’s high school sporting events and other family obligations after a hard week at work! This was one of the best shows on TV for the new season! Please bring it back! A week night would work best or Saturday night. For the next season…I will think twice about supporting any of your new Fall shows!
NBC doesn’t seem to have much patience or marketing know how as evidenced by this latest decision to cancel. Great show with a lot of promise in a terrible time slot. Why they didn’t hype the show more is a failure of NBC’s marketing division to promote this extremely worthy product. Come on ABC or CBS and pick it up and show NBC how to make a success of a wonderful show.
Please don’t cancel, this is a good show and has some good characters.
It’s one of those well written shows that takes some thinking on the part of the viewer too. What a shame to see this one hour show go!!! Leave it to NBC. I wonder if the show will be picked up by someone else who appreciates good writing and acting? Sure hope that could happen.

‘Trauma’ being another good example, ‘Cane’ another. Put Outlaw on opposite NCIS< Los Angeles (another waste of a good TVspot). Mr. Smits, Your fans don't want this show cancelled, this is not your fault..This is a mistake on the part of the network (again)!

THIS IS CRAZY!!! Outlaw is a GREAT SHOW!!! I setup a series recording just so I would be sure to not miss an episode. How could you make a call on how good the ratings are going to be after only 4 episodes! I’m sick of all these DAMN reality shows, news shows, dance shows, f’ing talent shows WTF!!! give us grown people a break and put something on that’s interesting for once. I’m still in shock that Cane was cancelled now this I hope another network picks it up and run with it.
Best new show of season! Better than Bluebloods! Fire whoever made this decision.

Always cancel the good show, I personally am sick of all thes news show you put on. A good show a person can get into is much more enjoyable. Before canceling a show, maybe try a differnt time slot. Sure hope someone else picks up this show! Love it!!!!!
