The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?
Wondering where the rest of your shows stand? Check our NBC cancel/renew page.

My wife and I watched it on Hulu. I wonder if ratings take this into account?

I can’t believe that. NBC has to bring it back.
All I can say to NBC is, “You killed that dog, man!”

Bring Back Outsourced! It’s some of the only relateable and genuine sitcomes going around.
I WANT MORE OUTSOURCED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great show and clean too. The concepts and ideas are funny and very entertaining. Now I only have the online past episodes and what is left on my DVR. BRING it BACK NBC!!!
NBC cancelled My Name is Earl (one of the most original shows…. ever) and then cancels another promising show that had a great cast, was entertaining and endearing. I don’t watch much TV, and I suppose it’s because the advertisers just can’t give any chances to show that take a while to catch on. Strange, because Seinfeld wasn’t exactly a big hit it’s first season, but it caught on with people by word of mouth. Shows aren’t given a chance to reach an audience anymore.
I also want to comment that all original ideas for shows are killed, leaving no room for creative writing and making it easier, quicker and cheaper to produce crap ” reality” shows. This formula kills jobs for talented writers and actors and dumbs everything down a few more notches. Sure, TV is a wasteland, but it used to be a better wasteland to visit than it is in its current state.
There was a lot of honest ideas and concepts in this show; the fact that it was about cultural shock and different people trying to adapt to each other;s world, sometimes being attracted by each other’s smilarities (or what they thought was similar) and differences, sometimes repelled by irreconcilable aspects between the cultures; the fact that the show revolves around an American company that sells stuff that is absolutely superfluous and makes the employees feel like they are in fact doing nothing of importance apart of earning money to provide for the family; the fact that Todd is the typical… Read more »
