The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

I LOVED this show, it was hysterically funny and also a bit educational about the differences in cultural traditions and customs. I am so sad it was cancelled. Bring it back! Please!
Big Mistake, Season 2 needs to be a reality. Great show!
My wife and I are in the 55+ demographic. We love this show and the way that it pokes lighted hearted fun at American Xenophobe. I, personally, loved the way that each character had a backstory that made them complex, interesting and not cardboard.
It seems of late that any show that asks its audience to think a little and to, perhaps, laugh at themselves has little chance of renewal.
A sad commentary on us.
i watched a few eps of this with my uncle this show rocks and am going to buy the whole season should be a season 2
Bring it back, so funny, It was the late night time slot!!
I loved this show. Finally something that both my teenage son and I really enjoyed. Bring it back – we miss it.
Please add Season 2 of Outsourced back on NBC. I loved that show — and it was a great way to see a bit of India culture from a humorus aspect. I don’t understand why the ratings dropped — perhaps it’s competition beat it, so maybe someone just misplaced the timing of this show. The talent was superb and the concept of the show was extraordinary. There are a ton of oddball girl canned laughter/boy rediculous comedies on TV that can’t hold a candle to Outsourced. Outsource (like The Office and 30 Rock) don’t need canned laughter.
GREAT SHOW….PLEASE RECONSIDER
Please put the show back :(((
Many viewers of this show looked at it in the wrong aspect, believing it to be “racist”. As an Indian myself, I thought the show was the first thing that properly represented Indian culture without stereotyping it. Do people look at Bride and Prejudice and call it racist? They should – many Indians feel it is an indictment on, and misrepresentation of, our culture; whereas Outsourced has till now only ever shown Indians and the south Indian mindset in its true light, without casting judgement on either the citizens or the visitors of the country. It was a terrible thing… Read more »
