The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

I agree with George A. Wojtowycz! No matter how funny this show is it’s based on a premise that is, at best, insensitive to the over 10+ million of out of work American’s! It’s no different than a TV series insensitive to any group. You may not be old enough but once it was acceptable to make jokes about gays, blacks and other minorities. Check out Amos and Andy, from the 50’s. If these writers are talented they can ply their trade around another premise and succeed. As far as the cancellation, it was about numbers, not the agenda. Outsourced was by far the funniest show on television. What a pity that Americans have no sense of humor. It has to be the Republicans! Such judgmental buffoons!
Just watched outsourced as recomended by 2 other friends , who’s the loser that cancelled this show. I spose the same idiot that canned futurama.
Best show ever whole family enjoyed it.
This show was funny! Yes there may be jobs that are being outsourced but in order to deal with hard times, sometimes people need to laugh. I’m so upset that it was cancelled. I was really looking forward to seeing the sparks fly between Todd and Asha.
It’s truly pathetic when Americans can’t lighten up a bit and we have to obsess over everyones feelings! Good Lord, it was a hilarious show that was realistic and was actually outside of the box compared to all of the cop dramas and medical shows on primetime now! It was cute and completely harmless. Those morons at NBC made such a huge mistake!
Are you all from another planet? We are living on a planet where the corporations are outsourcing jobs and destroying the middle class, all because it’s cheaper for them, and they want to turn this country into medieval fiefdom, and you find watching the theft funny? Leave your snobbish cluelessness and find outn how the real people live!
What is wrong with you? Can you not even see in yourself that your reaction is embarrassingly overdone? Of course business shouldn’t be taken out of America as it has been, but the show does not promote that, nor does it cause Americans to be ok with it simply because this show is funny. You sound hysterical and you are not proving your point at all. Be smart when you talk not psycho or ppl will not listen to you. They will only find you annoying and odd. Now stop this crap and find something to lighten yourself with sometimes!
My wife and I loved the show. Maybe it was too smart for the average American Thursday nite tv viewer.
I suppose you would also find the hijinks engaged in by Mitt Roomney’s Baine Capital to be hilarious! Ask the “beneficiaries” of Baine Capital’s good works how funny it is to watch the theft of their jobs.
I laughed out loud during this show, and at every episode. Cleverly written and well done by the actors, it brought home many fond memories of my personal work with Indian employees in several call centers in years past. I’d like to think those fine colleagues of mine would have enjoyed the show as much as I did.
I sure do miss it!
Maybe you’d find a show about working for job stealer Baine Capital to be hilarious! Ask the “beneficiaries” of Mitt Romney’s wisdom, how funny it is to watch their jobs being stolen from them!
Unfortunately, most viewers are too stupid to realize what a great show Outsourced was. It’s a crying shame to lose such a gem. Someday soon all we will be left with are lame reality TV shows.
Agreed with most commenters here. This was a mistake on NBC’s part to cancel Outsourced! It was a great show that, as one commenter state, required us to think a little. Nothing wrong with that! Bring it back!
BEST TV SHOW EVERR!!!
hi
I think this was a brilliant series, funny as hell, even was a hit here in South Africa, pity its been canccelled
Regards,
Noer
To the best of my knowledge, the sensitivity police have yet to forbid laughter in America. If NBC is afraid to ‘ruffle some feathers,’ I am sure FOX has the courage to air a show that promotes good humor and laughter. While the rest of the world is laughing at us, let’s laugh with them!
It’s a pity that the show got cancelled. I know that these TV networks base the success of their shows on ratings, but I’m in South Africa watching this show and I know so many people who enjoy it.
