The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

Outsourced was the one show I could count on to be funny. It didn’t help that it was moved to a later time slot on a different day. Maybe it wasn’t funny to eighth graders. Perhaps NBC doesn’t have the writing talent to maintain the story and keep it funny. Maybe they didn’t want to pay talented writers to keep up a comical storyline. Perhaps NBC is afraid of a multicultural storyline. Who knows! It would serve you right if another network picked up the series . Grudgingly, I must admit the series was much better than the movie. I loved this show. Didn’t miss an episode.
I’m so disappointed to hear this. I thoroughly enjoy this show. I probably appreciate it even more because im Indian, and it gives my friends a comical yet informative idea of my culture. Bad movE NBC. Bad move.
Great writing. Loved the characters. Even Indian viewers I spoke to loved the show. That gosh-awful 10:30p slot on Thursday was ridiculous! Nobody could find the show or last long enough on a Thurs. eve. to catch it. BRING IT BACK!!!
Its rajiv not rajij
Charlie » Thanks for catching that.
I will miss this show, but I can’t help but wonder if the fact that it became increasingly raunchy as the season progressed had anything to do with the dwindling viewership? It started off as a fun show that I felt comfortable watching with my kids, but by the last few episodes my husband and I found ourselves turning it off because it was just too over-the-top distasteful.
NBC, made a big mistake cancelling OUTSOURCED. This is the first original show in years. Its fresh, lovable characters, it is very well written, original laugh out loud funny. NBC intentially changed the time slot so the show was doomed to fail. SHAME ON YOU NBC.
Outsoured was a great show. NBC killed it with its time slot.
Chuck is an awesome show! Poor ratings and all it is well written, funny and most of all it has a rabidly loyal and vocal fan-base! I loved outsourced. I thought it was better than the dreadful 30 rock and community. I think NBC made a huge mistake in cancelling both Perfect Couples and Outsourced. NBC though is a joke of a network right now so no decision they make is surprising.
I definitely felt this was one of the better shows airing nowadays. Very bummed to see it go away. If NBC doesn’t bring it back on, I hope another network picks it up.
All this show needed was an earlier time slot. I’m in my 70’s and it was on my favorites list. Fortunately I live in the midwest so it showed at 9:30 instead of 10:30. Did anyone think of moving it to an earlier time? I think it appeals to many age groups and I think you’ve made a bit mistake in cancelling it before giving it some more time to catch on.
I’m very disappointed. Any chance you can reconsider? Please, pls, pls??!
I love this show, they shouldn’t have moved the time slot to 9:30 CST! ABC should buy it and put it right after Modern Family!!! What a GREAT hour that would be. My two favorite new sitcoms
How is it that a show that did just as well as other shows like Chuck They are still get the boot while Chuck stays. What are you thinking NBC??? Are you mad that your time jumping didn’t kill the show completely. You had a great show even if you didn’t think so. I hope another network signs the show and make you see that you were wrong.
wrong move NBC! people love this show..
The executives of NBC are making a bone headed decision to cancel a show with great writers and great performers!!! I hope another network will see the potential for this show and SAVE “OUTSOURCED”!!
