We’ve received quite a few e-mails from readers who are been worried that Parenthood has been cancelled by NBC. Well, it hasn’t been canned and will actually be returning on January 4th. That’s the good news but fans shouldn’t get too complacent. The drama hasn’t been performing all that well and certainly isn’t assured of a third season.
Last May, Parenthood was one of those shows that was “on the bubble” but still ended up being renewed. Though season one premiered with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.1 million viewers, it soon after dropped to a 2.3 rating and 5.83 million viewers. The 13 episodes of season one ended up averaging a 2.6 in the demo and 6.38 million total viewers.
For season two, Parenthood debuted at about the same demo rating it had at the end of season one. Unfortunately, that didn’t last. In mid-November, shortly before it went on hiatus, Parenthood hit a series low of a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.8 million viewers.
The first half of the season has averaged a 2.1 in the demo and 5.22 million. Parenthood is currently the seventh-highest rated scripted program on the network, falling in the middle of the list, just below The Event. While it’s not in immediate danger of being cancelled, the show’s certainly not safe either. Its fate will ultimately be decided by how well it performs when it returns from the six week hiatus. Most shows don’t typically fare very well and ratings drop after a hiatus. Will Parenthood be the exception?
What do you think? Will the ratings for Parenthood go up or down? Will it be cancelled or survive to see season three?

Love Parenthood, but it’s on too late for a family show. I fall asleep before its over and not because it’s dull, I find it very interesting and can’t wait for each episode to come on, but as I said..its on too late!
outrageous, are you kidding me this show rocks. who makes these stupid decissions about programing?
if they cancel i will cancel that network from my program guide.
use your heads managment
Where is my favorite show? It seems as though every time I really get hooked on a good show they disappear. Parenthood is the type of show any age can enjoy . I certainly hope it returns soon and stays.
Started watching last season and I love it Ian hooked!!!!
Love this show. It deals with family problems that most can relate to. Lots of laughs inbetween the drama………hope it continues.
I was so disappointed when I couldn’t find the show! It seemed as if it just disappeared. I a so very happy to know it was not canceled.
Parenthood is one of the few shows that I watch faithfully. I am disappointed to think that it my be taken off the air, considering all the programs that arn’t worth filming these days…………I hope it will be around for all the loyal fans to enjoy for a long time.
I I really enjoy this show. It is dealing with alot of real life situations. I think they really act like a large family with their differences but stick together when important. I am looking forward to watch it in the near future.
I love Parenthood. It is a true to live show with good actors. It’s a shame that the horrible reality shows are more popular than good down to earth shows that everybody can relate to. I hope it is not cancelled.
I am concerned why the thought of dropping Parenthood. It really is a good show, with many morale issues, now it is being taken off during a heartfelt moment of dealing with cancer, which is such a tremendous struggle for anyone to go through. The family that just adopted the little boy, as the reality of the issues they are going through. This is so heartbreaking that the networks are willing to pull a show that shows that life is a Big Headache at times, sorry that the viewers don’t seem to like it, I like it and I am… Read more »
Well said, river. Reality (Trash) TV has no morales whatsoever & Parenthood deals with “real” issues, yet, Reality wins. What an insult to our intelligence!
I absolutely love this show. Every character is so likeable and you understand them. The writing makes the point in every situation. Like the n word discussion Jasmin had with Jabar and that very touching moment with Crosby and Jasmin as they watched in on Jabar as he was sleeping and how well Kristina and Adam tried to explain to Max not to run for class president. I also think Ray Ramono is portraying his character brilliantly. Every storyline is engaging and pulls at your heart strings. Can’t say enough good things about this show.
Hey leave a comment. If it praises our poor subject matter, we will post it, anything negative … Well.. Sorry ;/
They only allow that which is pleasing to there ears.
Bull ****
I have loved Parenthood from the very beginning and was devistated when I thought it was cancelled. I am so glad it came back. One question – why do they talk over each other SO MUCH AND SO LOUD? They are a well educated family and what they are saying is important. That really hinders the VERY GOOD script. I hope it lasts forever. I love each and every character. I was never too much a fan of Ray Ramano and his shows, but he is a great new addition. Thank you very much for Parenthood. It is a class… Read more »
