In the past, Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence have both had successful sitcoms that ran for many years. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the duo’s new FX sitcom, Partners, has much of a future. It’s very likely to be cancelled.
On Partners, a snobby lawyer (Grammer) and an overly ethics-driven lawyer (Lawrence) become partners and end up helping each other get their lives in order. The rest of the cast includes McKaley Miller, Telma Hopkins, Danièle Watts, Rory O’Malley, and Edi Patterson.
As you may recall, FX made a 10/90 deal for Partners with Lionsgate TV and Debmar-Mercury. If the sitcom’s first 10 episodes reached a certain ratings threshold then the cable channel was obligated to order 90 episodes for season two — assuring the studios would have enough episodes for a (potentially very lucrative) syndication package.
Charlie Sheen’s sitcom, Anger Management, has a similar deal and this week, the 67th and 68th episodes of that sitcom’s 90 installment second season aired. George Lopez’s Saint George comedy also had a 10/90 deal but drew poor ratings and it was cancelled.
Deadline reports that it’s highly unlikely for Partners to go past a single season and it’s easy to see why. The ratings have been absolutely dismal. This week’s pair of episodes averaged a 0.12 rating in the demo and a mere 415,000 viewers — far lower than Saint George ever dipped.
Supposedly, FX hasn’t reached a decision yet but, unless there’s some sort of miraculous turnaround, it seems like Partners is already doomed to be cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Partners? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a super-sized second season?
Two comedic geniuses, and this what they came up with. They should have combined, both, martin series, and fraiser series characters, with new, would have been gold.
Do not cancel this show. they are crazy funny, Give them a chance.
We need to see more of characters like these two “wards of the court”. I enjoyed each family dynamic (SO great to see Telma Hopkins again!) and it’s hard for me to find a “Laugh Out Loud” show like this one. Don’t cancel — plus be creative with advertising where and when this show airs because that matters. Martin and Kelsey believe in each other and so do I.
I love this show! This comedy duo…genius!
I think it was a really funny show, Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammar are two of my favorite comedians and to have them both in a show is awesome. I truly hope u give this show one more season, too many great shows are being cancelled and I blame it on poor promotion, please keep this show on the air!!!!!
I like the show please don’t cancel
Too many good shows that make me laugh like this one does, have been cancelled ! An as ‘Tracy’ said ” The advertising for this show was very poor! The only way I found it was by watching “Anger Management” on Xfinity On Demand!! Even there weren’t to many ads for it!! It would be a shame to see it get Scrubbed Out!!
I loved the show and would like to see more.
Best Sitcom I had seen in years, like sitcoms use to be!!!!,
I really enjoyed this show. I would hate to see it end. Writing made me laugh out loud. Actors are very good.
Love this tv show. Great writing and acting. Sorry to know that it won’t be renewed, I think people just never knew about it.
liked it. Hoping for more episodes. I watch on demand because FX changes the schedule so much can’t tell when it’s on.
The advertising was poor. I didn’t even know it was coming on, I stumbled upon it on On Demand one day
I was looking forward to more episodes. There were only a few shown. Tv station needs to show more to entice audience.
I loved this show. I just found out tonight that the show has possibly been cancelled. Please don’t cancel this show. It is so funny. I love Kelsey Grammar and Martin Lawrence. The show is to good to be cancelled. You need to advertise it and let people know where and when to find it. I stumbled on the show after seeing 1 preview. Give people a chance to find it and build it’s audience. You folks who kill these really good shows remind me of my grocery store. They put a new item on the shelf and if people… Read more »
