In the past, Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence have both had successful sitcoms that ran for many years. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the duo’s new FX sitcom, Partners, has much of a future. It’s very likely to be cancelled.
On Partners, a snobby lawyer (Grammer) and an overly ethics-driven lawyer (Lawrence) become partners and end up helping each other get their lives in order. The rest of the cast includes McKaley Miller, Telma Hopkins, Danièle Watts, Rory O’Malley, and Edi Patterson.
As you may recall, FX made a 10/90 deal for Partners with Lionsgate TV and Debmar-Mercury. If the sitcom’s first 10 episodes reached a certain ratings threshold then the cable channel was obligated to order 90 episodes for season two — assuring the studios would have enough episodes for a (potentially very lucrative) syndication package.
Charlie Sheen’s sitcom, Anger Management, has a similar deal and this week, the 67th and 68th episodes of that sitcom’s 90 installment second season aired. George Lopez’s Saint George comedy also had a 10/90 deal but drew poor ratings and it was cancelled.
Deadline reports that it’s highly unlikely for Partners to go past a single season and it’s easy to see why. The ratings have been absolutely dismal. This week’s pair of episodes averaged a 0.12 rating in the demo and a mere 415,000 viewers — far lower than Saint George ever dipped.
Supposedly, FX hasn’t reached a decision yet but, unless there’s some sort of miraculous turnaround, it seems like Partners is already doomed to be cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Partners? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a super-sized second season?
Partners certainly has more depth to it than Anger Management, which only
seems to be about what woman Charlie Sheen is going to sleep with.
Love it, telling all of my friends to watch
I love this show.
No, please do not cancel this show..it is so good. the first 1 or 2 the chemistry was not there yet between Kelsey and Martin. Once they got it down it took off. Me and my family look forward to watching this show each and every week.
Don’t cancel this show. I’ve it a chance in the fall. We need more comedies
This show is so funny. Kesley, Martin, his assistants all of them play well off each other. I had no idea I would like it. After the first episode I was hooked, the writing and jokes so hilarious. Good job on the writing and casting. Bring it back for another season.
I am loving that show…partners…
Terrible show. Not funny. An embarrassment. It’s painful to look at. Dump it.
Why did you think this show was so bad. Did you watch the one episode and decide then? I would admit that the first two episodes weren’t as good as I thought that they should’ve been but it did get alot better if you would have given the show a chance. Thanks 🙂
NOOOOOO!!!!! DONT CANCEL.
I think fx should sign them to 90 episodes. Trust me they wont regret. You have to let the show grow kelsey and martin they have thete own dedicated audience people who absolutely adore them.
I think FX should give Partners a chance. I really enjoyed the sitcom and would love to see more of them. I think the actors were just starting to get really comfortable in their roles as I see it to keep getting better and better
I love the show. I think think martin and kelsey are genius. I think there could be some improvements supporting cast wise. I think the network should take a chance on this one it will be worth it. Do not be so quick to cancell it.it made me laugh it should also give martin Lawrence more lines. I hope I continue to get a chance to watch it I got cable jusy to watch this show.
Partners didn’t stand a chance airing it during the summer. I get more laughs out of that show than most other sitcoms. I think the cast has good chemistry!
Keep the comments coming email the fx network. Lets save a good wholesome show from being cancelled. I love this show so genuine. You know who they should have gotten to play martins assistant on the show either cole or tommy from the show martin.
I love partners it shows the smart diversity and well worked relationship of two savy comedians. It handles current issues in a skilled open manner. I think it should stay on the air!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be a real shame if it is taken off the air!!!!!!!!!!
If FX cancelled partners than I think that they’re not giving the show a real chance. If I were in charge of NBC, CBS or fox I would pick up this show in a heartbeat. Why do all of the good shows get bad ratings when the crappy shows stay on. It’s all about reality tv anymore. Tv shows were to take us away from reality. Please give partners a chance.
