In the past, Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence have both had successful sitcoms that ran for many years. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the duo’s new FX sitcom, Partners, has much of a future. It’s very likely to be cancelled.
On Partners, a snobby lawyer (Grammer) and an overly ethics-driven lawyer (Lawrence) become partners and end up helping each other get their lives in order. The rest of the cast includes McKaley Miller, Telma Hopkins, Danièle Watts, Rory O’Malley, and Edi Patterson.
As you may recall, FX made a 10/90 deal for Partners with Lionsgate TV and Debmar-Mercury. If the sitcom’s first 10 episodes reached a certain ratings threshold then the cable channel was obligated to order 90 episodes for season two — assuring the studios would have enough episodes for a (potentially very lucrative) syndication package.
Charlie Sheen’s sitcom, Anger Management, has a similar deal and this week, the 67th and 68th episodes of that sitcom’s 90 installment second season aired. George Lopez’s Saint George comedy also had a 10/90 deal but drew poor ratings and it was cancelled.
Deadline reports that it’s highly unlikely for Partners to go past a single season and it’s easy to see why. The ratings have been absolutely dismal. This week’s pair of episodes averaged a 0.12 rating in the demo and a mere 415,000 viewers — far lower than Saint George ever dipped.
Supposedly, FX hasn’t reached a decision yet but, unless there’s some sort of miraculous turnaround, it seems like Partners is already doomed to be cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Partners? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a super-sized second season?
I love this show- they are great together. It is nice to see something other than reality TV. They are both hysterical. please do not cancel!!!!
I think this show is great, really funny! Don’t cancel it!
Good show. Hope it’s not cancelled! Auberges clean up soe of te trashy one liners, but that is all. T just has to be given time to “age”
Partners is a great show. You need to keep this show. There is soooooo much crap on TV now, and this was a nice change.
please don’t cancelle partners it was the best show i seen in a long time, change it to another channel i am sure it will get better ratings. and i agree with ms couch
I like the show and I hope it is not cancelled…fx keep pulling the trigger to quick to cancel some good shows and keep crap on boooooooo!
Any chances it had to become vested are probably shot down a few notches after the negative publicity one of the cast members brought to the front door this week. Mainstream advertisers and watchers don’t endear her erratic demeanor.
The show was bit slow at first but like a lot of sitcoms, gets better with each episode as the actors get more comfortable with their characters and materials.
I’d like to see it go for a few seasons. It’s certainly better than 2 Broke Girls and world’s ahead of Mike and Molly.
I liked the show and would love to see it picked up
I would love to see this show picked up and even put on another time and maybe change two cast members. Get rid of the office detective lady (not funny and not very good in her role). Get rid of Martin daughter and give him another daughter that has a lot more role and don’t make her appear dumb. I really really like the show and find it very funny, entertaining, well written, and relatable to any ones life when it comes to the difference between white and black, right and wrong. There wasn’t much promoting for the show for… Read more »

I truly enjoyed the show and found it to be funny, entertaining, and a great cast.
Please don’t cancel Partners. It is really a great show, it has a lot of potential.
Disappointed that Partners is cancelled. Love both Grammer and Lawrence. ;o(
Actors great, with better writing it would make fantastic 100 episodes.
Give them a good chance.
