In the past, Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence have both had successful sitcoms that ran for many years. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the duo’s new FX sitcom, Partners, has much of a future. It’s very likely to be cancelled.
On Partners, a snobby lawyer (Grammer) and an overly ethics-driven lawyer (Lawrence) become partners and end up helping each other get their lives in order. The rest of the cast includes McKaley Miller, Telma Hopkins, Danièle Watts, Rory O’Malley, and Edi Patterson.
As you may recall, FX made a 10/90 deal for Partners with Lionsgate TV and Debmar-Mercury. If the sitcom’s first 10 episodes reached a certain ratings threshold then the cable channel was obligated to order 90 episodes for season two — assuring the studios would have enough episodes for a (potentially very lucrative) syndication package.
Charlie Sheen’s sitcom, Anger Management, has a similar deal and this week, the 67th and 68th episodes of that sitcom’s 90 installment second season aired. George Lopez’s Saint George comedy also had a 10/90 deal but drew poor ratings and it was cancelled.
Deadline reports that it’s highly unlikely for Partners to go past a single season and it’s easy to see why. The ratings have been absolutely dismal. This week’s pair of episodes averaged a 0.12 rating in the demo and a mere 415,000 viewers — far lower than Saint George ever dipped.
Supposedly, FX hasn’t reached a decision yet but, unless there’s some sort of miraculous turnaround, it seems like Partners is already doomed to be cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Partners? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a super-sized second season?
Please don’t cancel! Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence are great together! Hilarious…love it!!
Leave it on; great show.
Love the show. Don’t cancel this. It is hard to find well-written shows with great actors!
Please don’t cancel this show!!! It’s hilarious! The Grammer & Lawrence pairing is genius!

Pls don’t cancle the show,it’s full of potential ,just give it a chance,I know many ppl changed they’re tv package to be able to watch this great show…tnx
My Mom and I both really like the show. Most shows take a little bit to gain their momentum, build their characters and make minor adjustments (which we’ve seen done in shows throughout the ages). Give it a chance. To me, they’ve already done a good job of building the characters, the relationship and the basis of the show. Cancelling these shows so quickly is another sign of today’s impatient viewers who seem interested in nothing more than mind-numbing reality shows. It’s time for some more intelligent comedy.
I love Martin and Kelsey in almost anything. I just think that Kelsey’s character could be more shady AND Martin could be more off center. example: Martin is still a lawyer but tend to be very lay back (no suit).
Work on some modification but pleeeeeze DO NOT CANCEL.
GIVE IT A CHANCE. . . . THAT’S WHATS WROMG WITH THESE NETORKS BEING RUN BY THE NEW NO PATIENCE GENERATION. . . . IRONSIDE WAS CANCELLED JUSTNAFTER 3 EPISODES AND THAT WAS A GREAT SHOW. . . I HAVE STOPPED WATCHING NEW DRAMA SERIES AND SITCOMS CUZ NEXT THING YOU KNOW “CANCELLED”. . . SO WHAT’S THE USE IN WATCHING AT ALL. . . . AND IF ONE MORE NETWORK OUTSMOUT A REALITY SHOW. . . . I AM GONNA SCREAM!
Dear gawd … please give this dog a nice big iv of pentobarbitol … and put it to sleep permanently. Please find something worthwhile for Kelsey Grammer to do with his talents … not this lowbrow dreck!
What are you guys smoking. I liked the show.
Please don’t cancel. I really enjoy the show. Just make Martin Lawrence funnier. He’s too reserved. We know him as a very funny guy and that needs to come out more. Give it a chance before you give up on it. It has real potential.
Noooooooo! Don’t cancel this show. It’s one of the few smart, well-written and superbly acted sitcoms of the new shows this season. The teaming of Kelsey and Martin-brilliant!
I love Kelsey Grammar and am happy to have him back on TV, so I really hope they don’t cancel this show. I hate his step-daughter though. They need someone less annoying in that role.
