Last January, legions of Passions fans were extremely upset by NBC’s decision to cancel their eight year old soap. Certainly the 4,500 people who’ve signed our petition are among them. Because of its audience’s desirable demographic and because the network owns Passions, NBC has expressed interest in finding another outlet for the residents of Harmony.
NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said at the time, “We are going to be looking very, very seriously at keeping [Passions] alive. The fact is, there are loyal viewers of this show who love it and show up every day. And in a perfect world, we’d like to keep the brand alive. There may be another network. You know, I don’t think it’s a broadcast network, but there may be another cable network that wants to get in business with us and have some sort of on-air presence for the show.”
Though there’s been no official word about the prospect of continuing Passions past September 7th, TV Guide’s Soap Editor Daniel R. Coleridge has some news. Coleridge has reported that NBC is currently in talks with satellite television provider DirecTV to pick up the soap. Neither NBC nor DirecTV would comment right now so it’s probably far from a done deal as yet. If it does work out, I’m sure DirecTV is counting on a lot of people signing up for new subscriptions, almost like magic. Stay tuned!
Thanks to Shane for the tip.
passions has been a an addiction for me since it’s original air date. although it can be a little silly at times it always draws you back to watch more. my eyes dont allow me to read much anymore so you could say passions has been my never ending novel. i love this show and will been truly sad and at a loss if it is cancelled or moved to direct tv. thank yo for hearing my input on this. I already have a cable carrier and I don’t plan to get Direst TV so this saddens me that I will have to say goodbye to something that I enjoy so much. I will get a smile everyday as Days goes off and the Today Show comes on and I flip the channel to another network to watch something else. I don’t watch the first 3 hours of the Today Show so not wasting my time watching the 4th hour. There is just so much depressing news one person can take. I hope that Lifetime, Soap Net or Oxygen will… Read more »

DirectTV? Not willing to change current cable. Glad to hear “Passions” will live on…but for how long on Direct?
Will devoted fans still be able to catch episodes via internet?
I feel like it’s some game, no sooner is my show back I can’t watch it because I don’t have Direct and my parents cannot afford it. I’d do anything to watch it. If only they had webisodes. I will not abandon my show but I don’t see how I can possibly afford Direct.
Another World was cancelled due to low ratings, I miss that show a great deal. Sunset Beach was also cancelled, (low ratings).
I watched Passions for the first 3 years, and after that I got really bored with the storyline..I mean, it’s a soap opera, but no one has ever been happy on that show, it’s surreal at it’s best. I don’t want to see it go, Just like I didn’t want ot see Santa Barbara or Texas go, but things happen and we know it’s all about ratings.
I think you should put it on box set i have been waiting for it to come out and i am sure that people would love to have it sitting at their own place.I am sure you will get alot more people interested since they may miss it by working the show i hope goes on but please….bring it out on box set i would love to buy it
maybe now others can begin to understand how all the Another World fans felt when it was cancelled to make room for passions… how will the passions fans feel when they meet the roadblocks at NBC? and how will they feel about the show that replaces it?
passions fans have my sympathies… simply because i have been there
Please don’t take Passions off the air. I have been a viewer since day 1! I never watched any other soaps but since Passions I have started watching Days as well. This would be such a loss to NBC as well as it’s viewers. Please put your viewers first!!
My birthday is sept 8th don’t make it sad by taking off Passions. I enjoy it so much. I stop everything to watch it. If I’m not home I make sure I tape it So PLEASE
don’t remove the show
Thank you
BEING A PASSIONS FAN FROM DAY ONE, I AM SORRY TO SEE IT GO. HOPEFULLY NBC CAN COME TO SOME SORT OF RESOLUTION ABOUT IT FURTURE. ALTHOUGH SOME OF THE STORY LINES DRAG ON FOREVER, OFTEN LEADING TO NOTHING IT WAS STILL A GREAT WATCH.
P.S IF YOUR NEXT MOVE IS DIRECTV BRING IT ON,I ALREADY HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION
I’m so sad about Passions being cancelled. I hope it don’t go to Direct tv, some people don’t have the money to get that. Please either keep it on Nbc or a channel that fans can get without having to spend alot of money that some don’t have.
Who really cares about the today show, not me thats for sure,KEEP PASSIONS ON NBC! The network will lose alot of viewers if they don’t, then its bye bye Nbc
