The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Perception was great tv! As a cable viewer, this is another reason to consider if the few quality shows left, justify the expense.
I agree. There are a few good ones like the reruns of Castle and Bones (Dish doesn’t have ABC or Fox channel), but we’re stuck with Chrisley Knows Best or Duck Dynasty and other D rated shows for the fifth grade level mind.
That’s why I buy lots of DVDs for my enjoyment. Seems a waste of money to have satellite or cable.
I too am frustrated about my favorite show being canceled while crappy sitcoms with crappy story lines remain on the air. It was fun having a show that made me think every once in a while to look forward to. Maybe they ought to make it a soap opera so it won’t be canceled any time soon. Some of them that started when I was a kid back in the 60s are still on the air.
We all are. I haven’t read one post that says, “Good! I’m glad it’s going!” I’m still looking for DVD’s for second and third seasons without ordering it on line.
LOVE this show! Would watch it on any channel or online. Why would they cancel such ingenious characters and plot twists? Will be very disappointed if it is canceled 🙁
Apparently all of us who replied feel the same way. I just hope others will follow soon.
Perception is a well wrtitten show. I too am a faithfull watcher. So disappointed in the cancellation. I really hope another network picks it up. Not a good call tnt. Seems like a very bad decision. Noooooooo!
Keep complaining Joyelle. I hope someone from ABC or TNT reads this website & many more will complain, not just a handful.
Touche…
This is terrible! I love this show – what the heck is wrong with TNT!??! This show is fantastic. I am so sick of networks canceling great shows.
I guess some big wigs don’t care what watchers like or dislike. Or maybe TNT is on it’s way out as well.
Shame to see this show cancelled. It was one of the most creatively written shows to happen to TV in a long time. From the character development to the imaginative plots each week, my wife and I really looked forward to it. RL Cook’s character does come off a bit cold, stale and a bit masculine but still she and Daniel had great chemistry.
Hope this show gets picked up by another network.
Funny how so many of us hope the same thing, that some other network picks up Perception. But CBS would be the one to make the decision as TNT is from CBS. Maybe we need to complain to CBS. But we need lots of us to complain.
My bad it’s ABC that owns TNT. I can’t get ABC on Dish, so I may have to complain to Dish about that too.
Here is a great show for Netflix to pick up and get a bunch of viewers for.
I’ll look into Netflix because I can’t find season two or three for Perception on DVDs in the stores. I am scared of once again having someone getting my ATM info if I go on line.
Perception is a great show. Rethink think bad decision you are making TNT. I watched this show faithfully.
I got bored with Dallas when I predicted that Kristen shot JR way way back. Franklin & Bash was too Sophomoric for my taste so I’m not sorry about them either. But Perception was well written and the actors were really terrific. TNT has no taste as far as I’m concerned.
Really enjoyed this program, especially Eric McCormick… Very interesting story plots…. Hope another station picks it up….
PERCEPTION is a great show and should definitely get a fourth season!
this was a really good serise, every time you watch you feel excited,, i dont know how this TNT feel like cacellation,,, !! wish season 4 comes
I hope someone else will pick Perception up, I enjoyed it. Sad that shows like Duck Dynasty and Crisley Knows Best continue which draws people with 10 year old mentality, yet Perception which keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, is let go.
I hope someone will pick it up.
Remember King & Maxwell? I enjoyed that show, yet again TNT cancelled it. What is wrong with TNT?
Absolutely!!! Another wonderful show, gone apparently without a chance of resurrection since the actors have moved on.
No explanation for network executives decisions. Anyone remember Rubicon?
I think TNT strategy is really a shame.
This was a greatest shows in television.
These tv stations lose credibility every time they start a series and cut it off without giving it a chance to wrap things up. I am now very unlikely to watch a new show on TNT because I can’t trust their credibility. This is just bad business.
I love Perception and it’s smart, challenging concept! I am very disappointed to learn that the show is being cancelled and would definitely follow it to another channel.
I’m very disappointed to read that this show has not been renewed. What is wrong with TV programmers? They seem to have no sense of history. Some of the greatest shows in television slumped in the early years only to grow to massive hits (e.g., Cheers, Hill Street Blues, even MASH). I always appreciated the well-written shows on Perception and the faithful and educated understanding of mental illness that the show portrayed. What a shame and what a loss. I would happily watch this show, wherever it ended up.
