It’s been a disappointing summer for Mark Burnett’s reality shows. FOX’s much-hyped On the Lot filmmaking competition has been falling in the ratings since its debut and was cut back to a single hour long episodes per week. It looks like Lot will finish its run but Burnett’s other new reality series isn’t so lucky.
Pirate Master debuted on CBS on May 31st and attracted a lukewarm seven million viewers — despite coinciding with the release of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film in theaters. Many feel that the series was highly derivative of Burnett’s Survivor series and ratings have been steadily falling.
As a result, CBS has cancelled Pirate Master effective immediately. Five hours are left in the competition and the network plans to post a new episode online each Tuesday at CBS.com. The “news show” 48 Hours Mystery will fill in for tomorrow night. Stay tuned!
I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE SHOW WAS CANCELLED, I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO BE PART OF A SHOW LIKE THAT. I FEEL BAD, NOW WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH REAL STUPID SHOWS. SHAME ON YOU CHANNEL 2 THAT’S WHY YOU’RE NOT
#1 IN THE RATINGS
That does figure, just when you start to like a show they drop it. but not a REALITY show, over half way through the show!!
The “suits” at CBS extend a middle finger to fans of Pirate Master. If it’s ratings are not good enough for primetime, show it at 2:00 AM so we can tape it.
I am a fan of Pirate Master, but I admit it could have been much, much better. Summer TV is terrible, what else is there to watch.
Please just show us the highlights of the last episodes so we know who won and why. JM
Bring Pirate back!
Thanks yet again. After Jericho, maybe we’d get a break on the mid season pull, but alas, not so. I wasn’t always a big fan of reality shows but after being fed up with rereuns, we tuned in for the freshness of the “entertainment value” that could be had. And though not the most thought rivoting scenerio(with a couple of tweaks, could be), The overall concept kept us watching this “1 in 200” channel show evey week.
I am very disappointed that Pirate Master has been cancelled. Let us see the ending to find out who wins.
Pirate Master was so silly it was a lot of fun. Looked scripted but all “reality” shows seem so. I looked forward to each show and am so disappointed that it has been cancelled. Now I can watch my DVD collection instead of TV.
I find it totally disgusting that cbs cannot show the last remaining shows! My husband and I have watched religiously from the start, and now to have it completely shut-down!?!?!? Totally unfair………
please finish the series or at least let people know who won the money. don’t start something you can’t finish. there are other shows worse than this one still showing.
Not the best show, but kept us watching every week. One of the few shows my wife and I looked forward to watching
Being a fan and with summer television having very slim pickin’s – it wasn’t right for CBS to pull the show. Follow through and finish it for us!!
OK, Fine……Pirate Master may not have been one of the best reality shows, but I was enjoying it. I had my favourites and my not so favourites. Imagine my surprise this morning when I find out that it has been cancelled but I can watch it on my computer. Imagine my surprise when I discover only people in the United States are able to watch it on their computers. I think it stinks that I and others I know will not be able to see who wins the cash. For crying out loud, the finaly episodes were already filmed. Why… Read more »
But why not show the rest of the episodes? It’s not like everyone will watch old 48 Hour reruns. Maybe it was only 7 million of us that faithfully watched it, but shouldn’t we be allowed to finish the series? The money was already spent to make the show, and there is not plans for a new season. So what’s the harm?
I am a fan of this show, but even I have to agree with what people are saying about it. If you watched it from the begining you would have seen that they rushed the this show through and didn’t give it the time and polish they gave the first seasons of Survivor. The basis and contestants (for lets face it, the majority of reality shows are just game shows where you get to know and care about the contestants) were rock solid, but the challenges were not entertaining and you could cut most of the challenges out of the… Read more »
