What’s This TV Show About?

Airing on the FOX television network, Pitch follows Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), the first female Major League Baseball pitcher. When this gifted rookie is called up by the San Diego Padres, Ginny must prove herself to her teammates. She and captain/All-Star catcher Mike Lawson (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) are loath to admit their chemistry. While some of the Padres don’t even want Ginny on the field, her old minor league friend, center fielder Blip Sanders (Mo McRae), has her back. As Ginny’s agent and confidante, Amelia Slater (Ali Larter) recognized Ginny’s potential early on and dedicates herself to the rising star’s career. Despite her demanding dad Bill Baker’s (Michael Beach) preparation, Ginny finds it grueling to represent her entire gender under the spotlight’s glare. The Pitch cast also includes Mark Consuelos, Dan Lauria, Meagan Holder, and Tim Jo.

Season One Ratings (Finals)

While Pitch premiered on September 22, 2016 with a 1.06 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and an audience of 4.227 million viewers, it has been downhill, since then. The first season of Pitch averaged a 0.83 rating in the 18-49 demographic and drew an average audience of 3.03 million viewers. Telly’s Take

In the 2015-26 television season, FOX cancelled several shows that with ratings similar to Pitch, season one.  Sleepy Hollow is the only series with a comparable demo rating (0.83) that FOX renewed. That said, that renewal was for a fourth season, which would result in a respectably sized syndication package. Ratings generally decline over the life of a show. That the first season of Pitch is performing so weakly does not bode well for the baseball drama. It seems likely that FOX will cancel Pitch by May.
