Earlier this week, NBC announced their mid-season schedule and, not surprisingly, low-rated Prime Suspect wasn’t on it. Supposedly NBC execs hadn’t cancelled the show and would still be “considering their options” until all 13 episodes had aired.
Now comes word that production will be shutting down before the holiday. The cast and crew were reportedly informed of the season wrap on Monday afternoon, as NBC was announcing their schedule. It surely wasn’t a surprise. Mario finishing episode 12 now and will complete number 13 before closing up shop.
There won’t be any more episodes produced for this season, despite the fact that the network ordered another half dozen scripts. Though NBC isn’t officially saying that Prime Suspect is cancelled, the cast and crew have been told that there won’t be a second season.
Theoretically, Prime Suspect could be brought back next season but that would mean that the network would have to put a lot of money into promoting a show that had been off the air for nine months, a show that couldn’t muster strong ratings after a big launch. Thus far the show’s averaged a dismal 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.97 million viewers.
There’s simply no reason for the network to spend any more resources on Prime Suspect. For whatever reason, most of the network just weren’t interest in this TV series.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Prime Suspect is being cancelled and won’t be back for a second season?

NO! Very disappointed that this show has been cancelled. Excellent cast, well written, interesting. I hope that another network picks it up. The advertising for the show was stupid, portraying Maria Bello’s character in an irritating and patronizing way.
My husband I love this show! Acting is brilliant–fabulous ensemble. It fills the empty space in our hearts where Law & Order was ripped away. It’s a crying shame it’s been cancelled. Maybe another network will pick it up, as happened to Friday Night Lights, also fabulous.
We really enjoyed Prime Suspect and wish it would not be cancelled. Just when you get something good……..
OMFG, NBC idiots. Honestly, I think Prime Suspect is the only show I watch on NBC. Literally. Gonna miss me some Maria Bello, so so pissed.
Please do not cancel this show. A lot of people I know love this show and would be very disappointed if it does not come back.
I am sorry to hear that Prime Suspect is being cancelled. I thought it was one of the best shows on the air. This is a real shame!
It’s hard to believe that most folks want humiliating “reality” shows rather than one with quality writing, character development and acting–and, yet, Prime Suspect is pulled! I am so glad I bought the season on Amazon Instant Video.
Seriously, loved the show – I know it doesn’t matter to write this – but keep the show .
I screamed out loud in horror when i heard the show was canceled. I loved it. I thought the characters were real and Maria Bello was awesome. Please bring the show back. If not, hopefully one of the cable stations will pick it up. Many a show has found life after network TV who don’t win most of the awards now anyway..
Yeah. I’m really sad. Prime Suspect was great. I clearly am not in the profile of how networks make decisions to keep shows. It also seems like networks set a series to fail right from the start. I have several shows that I cannot watch at the air time and would watch these shows “on demand” but they haven’t been added to the show list; so these shows aren’t getting my watch when they could if they simply added themselves to the on demand play list. Why would a show do that? Why would a network do that? Don’t they… Read more »
The most talented and best trained ensemble of actors on a television show since “The West Wing” should be encouraged, enhanced, supported! To ALL the principals, BRAVO!
This show reminded me of Chase. The show was as bad as Prime Suspect. I knew neither one of them would last through a full season. When people stop watching shows in the middle of the program, something is wrong. It shows in audience view reports wich had both shows finishing third. Good ridence!!!!
I’m going to assume that you are one of those folks that are riding the reality train and think that Glee is the best show ever.
Oh no. I just found out the show was cancelled. This was a great show. I assumed everyone was watching. I hope another network picks it up.
Please bring this show back. I was very disappointed that it was cancelled. Perhaps another time slot would have worked.
please do not cancel this show!!! my boyfriend and i love it and watch every time it is on
