Many medical dramas have succeeded on television and many more have failed. The Pure Genious TV show is a bit unique as it mixes medical cases with high tech. Is this a winning combination for CBS when it comes to the ratings? Is this TV series worth watching? Should Pure Genius be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Pure Genius follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. Doctor Walter Wallace (Dermot Mulroney) is a disgraced but brilliant surgeon who is recruited by a young Silicon Valley tech billionaire, James Bell (Augustus Prew). Wallace learns that Bell is harboring a secret and he begins to question just what the young founder is really trying to achieve. Others on the team are played by Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Pure Genius debuted on October 27th with a 1.05 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 6.23 million viewers. It was not a good start and the show’s ratings have gotten even worse. The second episode dropped to a 0.88 rating with 5.37 million.
The numbers have risen and fallen a bit over the course of eight episodes that have aired so far. The show’s averaging a 0.9 demo rating with 5.39 million viewers. Pure Genius is currently CBS’ second-lowest rated scripted TV series (behind Elementary, which airs on Sunday nights at 10pm).
It’s already been revealed that CBS won’t be ordering any more episodes for season one of Pure Genius. Though the network hasn’t cancelled the show, it’s highly unlikely that CBS will be bringing it back for a second season either.
Pure Genius is off the schedule for the holiday but will return in a special timeslot on Sunday, January 1st, at roughly 9pm (it may be delayed because of football). The remaining installments will air on Thursday nights at 10pm. Right now, it looks like the (likely series) finale will air on January 26th.

This is an intriguing and very enjoyable show…. in our opinion one of the best as it is upbeat and full of fun and surprises and all of the actors are so very good and appropriately look and act the parts of the person they portray. Please do NOT cancel this show… KEEP IT PLEASE. Thank you
My husband and I love this TV show! I know of two young men who are going into medical engineering because of what they have seen. We are seeing the possibilities of what may happen in the future. Please don’t cancel Pure Genius.
We love this show!! Although we record it, we wind up watching it later the same night … which only happens with a handful of shows (i.e., Madam Secretary, NCIS and Project Runway ). The acting is wonderful … love Augustus Prew as James … and the stories give us a glimpse into the future of medicine. Not just another doctor show … please renew!!!

I absolutely agree this series is one of my favorite currently on TV. It is a different type of medical show. It makes you wonder what can be possible with new technology and I think the cast is excellent. CBS do not cancel this show. It is worth saving and trying a new Times lot or day. Pure Genius deserves a chance to gain viewers

I agree this show has interesting storylines, real touching storylines and great characters and the actors make you believe they are doctors. CBS needs to give this show a chance And what I like is that it is a different kind of medical show.

I think it has an inspiring theme, with very well thought out character development. Dylan McDermott is not the only great actor on the show, as most may think he is the “anchor”. In actuality, HOPE is the lead…. I like the show Scorpion, even if it is far fetched, so how could IT survive, but Pure Genius can’t get a 2nd episode? Give it a different time slot. The soundtrack for each episode is reason enough to keep it, and it has such potential. KEEP IT!
Please reconsider and don’t cancel this show. This is an amazing show with an excellent cast and wonderful stories. We need more shows on air like this, heartwarming stories of caring and hope and no violence.

Pure Genius is pure brilliance, the show needs to be kept. I’ve watched every single episode and I was always left wanting more, always looking forward to when Augustus Prew would say “Stay tuned for scenes from our next episode” because there was yet another episode to look forward to. CBS, please don’t give up on this amazing show, it deserves a second season…
