The original Quantum Leap is a beloved series but never ranked higher than 53rd in the annual ratings. That’s not a big surprise considering that sci-fi series have historically had a tough time attracting a big audience on network television. Will this Quantum Leap sequel be cancelled or renewed for season two on NBC? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A sci-fi series, the Quantum Leap TV show is a sequel to the 1989-93 series of the same name. This incarnation stars Raymond Lee, Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. It’s been nearly 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now, a new team, led by physicist Ben Song (Lee), has been assembled to restart the project in hope of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it. Everything changes, however, when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it. At Ben’s side throughout his leaps is Addison (Bassett), who appears in the form of a hologram only Ben can see and hear. At the helm of the highly confidential operation is Herbert “Magic” Williams (Hudson), a no-nonsense career military man with a tie to Sam Beckett. The rest of the team includes Ian Wright (Park) and Jenn Chou (Lee). As Ben leaps from life to life, putting right what once went wrong, it becomes clear that he and the team are on a thrilling journey. However, this thrill ride could result in the loss of Ben forever.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
4/4 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the Quantum Leap TV series on NBC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
*12/13/22 update: Quantum Leap has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
I was really enjoying the story plot. I recorded the episodes because I work nights. I would’ve liked to have seen Quantum Leap 2022 to continue. Maybe another network will pick it up. Nobody watches NBC anymore, I’m thinking that’s the main reason for the fall off.
I agree. This show is great. I appreciate that while it is recommend, helmets are not required to enjoy this show.
Quantum leap in name only. Apart from superficial similarities, and the odd mention of Sam Beckett, this show, with so much of the action surrounding the project team in the present, is more like a modern reboot of the Time Tunnel than QL. It’s harmless enough, but it isn’t anything to write home (or Leap Home) about. The ratings aren’t great, and the key demo is atrocious, but it does have a non-white lead and a diverse group of supporting actors including a “non-binary” so NBC might keep it around for virtue signalling points. Personally, I find it all just… Read more »
This show is supposed to be a continuation. So where is the person being leaped into? Why does the hologram not leave and enter through a door? Way too much time being spent in the present. Makes me not care about who the people are that he is helping.
Also the whole romance angle with the hologram it’s just too corny. Also too many characters that I just do not care about. I would get rid of the security guard at the very least.
This is the first show I have watched on NBC in over 2 years. I
don’t watch NBC at all. I missed first 3 episodes because I didn’t know it had been recreated. Just starting to enjoy it. I hope that it gets a chance to continue.
I agree. I love how the main character joined up with the A-Team and attacked the bad guys. Mr. T as B.A. Barracus is a great addition to the cast. Next week’s show should be even better when they start voting people off the island. Must see TV. Never Better.
Ugh. When a show can’t pull off a decent Halloween episode, that’s bad news ahoy right there. The characters are boring, the actors don’t bring nearly enough to the party…and the plots are surprisingly uninventive.
The last episode has the same amount of viewers 2 days later. Does that mean no one is steaming?
Stick a fork in this turkey, it’s done.
The total viewers are down every week. Not looking good. Why they are using Al’s daughter instead of Sami Jo makes no sense. So many unnecessary people.
Was excited to hear about the new QL show coming out but then saw previews and became uninterested. Having the leaper’s desperate lover be the hologram is very tacky. If there is no Sam, there is no QL for me.
Sam’s character is in the show. They are looking for him. It does have the same involvement showrunner as the first series. It’s been 30 years. Life changes people die and move on. If you want to relive the past show you can. But, every show is new at some point. Who’s to say this show can’t be great for the next generation? At least its a hopeful show. Helping people. Maybe, you will be surprised. Its a continuation, Not a reboot.
NBC should move Quantum Leap from 10PM to 9PM or 8PM. Because I just don’t understand why it’s always getting the lowest ratings.
It gets about a 70% boost in the +7 ratings. We are in transition. More and more people stream shows. So, these ratings do NOT give the full picture. Even +7 isn’t enough. Not everyone keeps up exactly to week to week format. And may catch up if they miss a week. I did that once already. Because I just forgot. And been busy.
Finale numbers take into consideration all ratings. And the show seems to not be improving.
Another garbage unnecessary remake.
Its a continuation/squal not a reboot. If you gave it a change you may be surprised. Seems silly to hate on things you never even watched doesn’t it? All shows have some growing pains. It does get better each episode as it unveils more and more.
I can again watch Monday night shows with this program. Now is a better choice than what’s on the other channels
It’s stupid people thumb down an opinion. Just ignore the people that can’t just accept everyone has a different opinion. I enjoy the show also. But, I don’t throw shade at someone to the point of disliking their comment. I may ask questions. But that’s different.
watched to see if it would be worth watching, loved the original, this one was ok for a premiere, my issue, to many characters , too much time spent in the “facility” and BIGGEST question, wheres the person ben leaps into, no mention, in the original the person sam leaped into, leaped into his body. would have much rather seen that then the ( i can only assume) “goosie” character played by th bleach blonde guy, dont remember the character name he was so boring, and the “security” officer isnt needed either, the concept of AL’S daughter is nice, and “magic”… Read more »
I Really Enjoyed The Show And I’m Really Hard On Reboots Of Any Kind That Said I Will Watch Next Week And Hope It Even Gets More Better
Hey, what’s your opinion now? Had it gotten better for you? I think it’s getting more interesting. And it should continue as it becomes more developed as a series. Should be interesting what they do with their extra 6 episodes now that they have heard the public. They could make adjustments. Only issue is many people aren’t very forgiving. Just bc they can not handle change. It’s a sad human trait. But, honestly it’s very healthy to challenge one’s self to push through ones discomfort. Being plastic makes us stronger.
I’m Sorry It Took So Long To Reply Yes For Me Its Gotten Better And I’m Glad They Gave It A Second Season They Need To Retool Some For Season 2 So Many Unnecessary People I Think They Need To Focus On The Two Main Characters
Surprised, actually really liked and enjoyed.
