Sorry, Kenny. ABC has cancelled their Tuesday night comedy series, The Real O’Neals after two seasons. The sitcom concluded its run in late March.
A single-camera comedy series, The Real O’Neals revolves around an Irish Catholic family that seems to be living an idyllic life. Their lives are turned upside down when the middle son comes out of the closet and the rest of the family members come clean with their own secrets. They then start to live their lives more authentically. The show stars Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Matt Shively, Bebe Wood, and Mary Hollis Inboden.
Real O’Neals debuted as a mid-season replacement in early 2016 and drew mediocre ratings. The network decided to give the series a chance to grow its audience but it didn’t happen. As a result of the lackluster ratings, ABC ordered just three additional episodes beyond the initial 13 installment order. The second season ended up averaging a 0.93 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.07 million viewers.
The series was not expected to return and the cancellation now makes Ferguson available should comedy pilot Living Biblically get a greenlight at CBS.
What do you think? Did you like The Real O’Neals TV show on ABC? Are you sorry that there won’t be a third season?
My wife and I enjoyed the antics of the “Real O’Neals” on Tuesday nights. I feel bad that it has cancelled. I hope ABC reconsiders.
I liked the show it was very funny. ABC you suck!!!
this is sad because it was real funny and true to life.boo to abc
the Cancelled last man standing to it had high rating
It was an OK show, not much more.
With the low ratings this show has, it’s a wonder it lasted this long. At the same time, ABC cancelled Last Man Standing. There are 10 times the number of comments for that show, although it’s harder to find the cancellation notice for it on the sidebar. Over a third of the 11 comments for this show were from people glad it’s gone (not including myself), while LMS is almost purely fans surprised at the sudden axe. While cancelling the Real ONeals is totally warrented, LMS was one of the most popular shows on the network, even though it spent… Read more »
LMS was boring and unfunny. It has six seasons about 4 too many. Watching wet paint dry was more exciting. Good riddance.
I LOVED THIS SHOW – I am so sad now.
I want this series to last forever.
With this show gone, now maybe some talented writer can get a chance to write a show.
I’m sorry to see it go. I thought the show was very good.
Good riddance. “The Real O’Neals” was incredibly offensive, exploiting anti-Catholic bigotry and stereotypes of Irish Americans. The writing was crude, and the cast wasted.
This is my favorite show on TV. I might as well cancel my cable service.
ABC you say you support the LGBTQ community, prove it by at least airing a few more episodes & give the show a happy ending.
They always get rid of the good shows. I just found out about this show last months and only saw two episodes. Sure was looking forward to a 3rd season.
I will definitely miss it.
Good decision. Hope it makes room for something better.
It won’t. Replacements are always worse.
They could replace The Real Oneals with test patterns and it would be better.
