In its first season, the Resident Alien TV series was a big success for Syfy in the ratings. Will it continue to be a strong performer this time around? Will Resident Alien be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A sci-fi comedy series, the Resident Alien TV show is based on the Dark Horse comic series and stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Elizabeth Bowen, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, and Judah Prehn. The story revolves around Captain Hah Re (Tudyk), an alien with the secret mission to kill all humans. He crashes on Earth and passes himself off as a human doctor named Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle in a small town in Colorado. In his new guise, Harry starts off living a simple life but things get complicated when he’s roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world. In season two, Harry is once again stranded on Earth where he must confront the consequences of having failed his people’s mission to destroy the human race. On his new quest to protect the people of Earth, Harry struggles to hold on to his alien identity as his human emotions grow stronger by the day.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: The second season premiere was simulcast on USA Network and drew a 0.12 in the demo with 536,000 viewers.
For comparisons: Season one of Resident Alien on Syfy averaged a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.13 million viewers in the live+same day ratings.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but the higher-rated series are typically renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the Resident Alien TV series on Syfy? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
*7/22/22 update: Resident Alien has been renewed for a third season by Syfy.
2nd season started slow… but realy wound -up quick.h Hope for more, but knowone cares what I like. 🙁
Loved Season 1 and 2. Really hoping it gets renewed!
Make the show more like season 1. Less huggy feely. More of Harry’s offbeat humor.
What a GREAT series. Finally, a show that makes you laugh at the sideways humor. By the way, a lot of in our 70’s love this show, yes us baby boomers are out there and spend lots of money on the things we like.
Fantastic series, can’t wait to see more!!!!
Hit and miss for second season. More Harry and less of the political correctness crap. Not going to give up it though. Had such potential. Let looose.
Season 2 should be its last. Totally inappropriate for family viewing. Killing of octopus, sexual situations, drug use etc.
The show never set out to be a ‘family friendly’ show. It’s based on a comic book series meant for mature readers. And 9:00 PM is not exactly ‘family hour’ either. Kids should be in bed getting ready for school the next morning.

Love Resident Alien. Cast is soo human. Everyone is well developed and interesting. We care about them all.
When are these networks going to realize we watch shows for entertainment we don’t want to be lectured with Wokeism, Diversity, Female Empowerment, or any other thing that is POLITICAL!! Just give us Good Entertainment what happened to giving us a show that’s all about the THEME of the SHOW? Stop with all this. If I want POLITICS I will go to a Social Platform to get my information or to Speak my Grievances. I just want to Watch a Show that’s written very well and is intriguing, suspenseful. riveting, and leaving me wanting for more of the same. Get… Read more »
Unfortunately, they don’t care. SYFY is owned by Comcast(which owns NBC and MSNBC) and they are pushing an agenda lots of the time. I dumped my cable TV package, and I haven’t watched a network TV show this season. I also stopped watching sports, which I have been a fan of my whole life.
I miss Vikings!
Season 2 went down hill fast with Ep 3 with each episode following hasn’t been much better. Each episode is so sloppily written with so many feel good/ female empowerment messages that they don’t fit as if every scene has a different writer coming in unaware of what’s previously written. Asta started off annoying & has gotten worst with each passing episode. Either she’s accepting of Harry being an alien or she’s intolerant towards him. It’s filled with immature bossy characters, like every other character is very pushy…namely the female characters. Some guy isn’t interested in dancing or dating yet… Read more »
Oh No!!! Writers heading down the PC rabbit hole. Nobody watches a sci-fi show to be lectured on feminism, environmentalism, or any other ism. Why is it so impossible to Just write crisp sci-fi stories that stimulate the imagination with the added benefits of interesting relationships, wit, & humor? (PS Also disappointed in the trite cliche of Tudyk having the ability to erase memories.)
Season two started off great. But the last two episodes have been horrendous – the woke girl power nonsense is unwatchable :/
Season 2 — still one of the funniest shows on TV.
Loved season 1 and count wait for part 2. After 2 episodes, Im a bit let down…..so I hope it gets better quick.
Best series Syfy has had in years. Maybe ever. Tudyk is brilliant! I’m sure the suits at syfy can’t wait to cancel it.
Tudyk is fabulous. Asta too.
