Amazon UK has renewed the historical drama Ripper Street for fourth and fifth seasons. Season four is expected to stream in the UK later this year and season five will stream sometime next year. Filming will begin soon.
The episodes will be shown on BBC America here in the states but it’s unclear exactly when.
Executive producer Saul Venit of Lookout Point, said, “Keeping this series going for 37 episodes over five series is a hugely exciting achievement and is testament to the extraordinary creative results, as well as to the visionary teams at BBC Worldwide and Amazon as our core commercial partners.”
As you may recall, Amazon rescued Ripper Street and renewed it for a third season after the BBC cancelled the series. The third season of the series is currently airing in the United States. The eight episodes will finish airing on June 17th.
What do you think? Do you like the Ripper Street TV show? How long do you think the series should run?
I have watched seasons one, two and three and goodness gracious me. I am waiting in suspense for the next two seasons of Ripper Street. I am eager to learn of what will happen next, after a great finale ending season three. What I mostly admire about Ripper Street is the continuation, of each episode which has a good structure to its nature of what will take place after each episode, no fluffy or airy fairy parts. No offense to any other series. But this particular one holds integrity and dignity of its story-line. Meaning their is no quick fix,… Read more »
Everyone has to just keep their enthusiasm on high gear, so this great TV series is not cancelled. Which ever producer or high echelon thought Ripper was not worthy of being renewed was absolutely wrong. I can hardly wait for the next season!
Ripper Street is a great show I love watching it and I am very happy it is still going. I will watch it as long as it runs. Top Notch writing and done very well. BBC knows how to do period pieces. I wish there were more shows like it.
Ripper Street is really well done. Authentic sets, costumes, language in the script, seems to nail the period. The personal lives of the characters had been rather languishing, but this season the it’s getting more play time and the crimes at least have fresher leads – more immediate, therefore more exciting.
I am a confessed anglophile and love all of the English (or more properly, UK) mysteries, period or modern day.
Brilliant series so far.
What is the BBC doing?
Yes, I want more Ripper Street series. I especially like the archaic speech with it’s own cadence. I can only give praise to a most engaging series.
Jane, you are so right! Everything about this series is so authentic. The acting is so real, makes you feel you are right there! The street scenes are right out of the a true to life scenerio. Every character has their own story – a piece of the puzzle that fits perfectly. Brilliant.
May I “third” both your sentiments on “Ripper Street,” Jane in WVa USA and Dolores Fabian. It’s wonderful that we now have Seasons 4 & 5 to look forward to in the future, as well as currently threading our way through the twists & turns of a fascinating Season 3!
We just have to squeeze Rupert Penny John in here – someplace in Ripper!
If you’re suggesting an 1890s version of Whitechapel’s DI Chandler (OCD, and all?), that would be one amazing addition, or guest spot, for “Ripper Street.” Wonder if Season 4 will jump ahead in time several years as S3 is doing…
Marie Roget – you got it! Ripper fans are always thinking. Too bad the producers don’t listen to us more.
I am ecstatic that Ripper returned to our BBC channel. I cannot tell you how I love the gritty time line, acting, costumes – EVERYTHING!
I will watch it until forever. I tell everyone who listens to watch it ONE time and they’ll be hooked.
My kind of show. Watched year and watching this year!!
So pleased that we will get two more series, very clever writing leaves things open just enough at the end of season 3 for a new story arc. I fear we may have not seen the last of Long Susan’s father.
Ripper Street hit the spot where with its’ high production values, great acting, sharp dialogue and wonderful camera work, Copper wilted in comparison. Ripper Street is really a western transfered to the streets of victorian Londonn, probably the most comparable series of recent years was the excellent Hell on Wheels.
This is a great show! It’s too bad that there are no previous seasonson on-demnd so I could catch up.
Seasons 1 & 2 are a available on Netflix streaming
I adored Ripper Street as well as Copper. Does anyone know if Ripper Street will be shown in Canada?
We are lucky they renewed it for another season. From what I heard they were not going to make anymore. I am delighted to see that there will be more indeed! This is one of my favourite time periods in England and this programme is do so well. The acting is superb and the scripts are intriguing. Of course, Matthew Macfayden is so very handsome; who wouldn’t want to see more screen time from him?? Sighs…I am pleased.
is *done* so well…
Kimberly you might enjoy the excellent BBC spy series Spooks which in some countries was retitled MI5 or Spooks-MI5 in which Matthew MacFadyen plays a modern spy hunter not unlike his Ripper Street character.
Oh, I have seen a few episodes of MI-5 (Spooks). I LOVED it! I stopped watching when Rupert Pendry-Jones took over. It broke my heart. Such a good show! I would love to see it from go, but I am finding it difficult to find earlier seasons.
Thank you, thank you Amazon UK and BBC America. This is a great series. Wonderful to have it for 2 more seasons.
BBC really does period pieces well. I’m glad this is sticking around. I really wish Amazon would revive the other great show “Copper”. That not only showed early NY around the Five Points the way life was back then, but also mixed in a great deal history in the stories. How that one got cut is beyond me
In complete agreement on “Copper.” Couldn’t believe when it was suddenly cancelled. A slice of real Americana, warts, grit, dirt, & all. Great story lines, great characters.
A top-notch series with exquisite attention to both plotting & period details. For our family it’s the absolute gold standard of police procedurals, whether set in Victorian times or ANY times. Wonderful news that Ripper Street has been picked up for seasons 4 & 5!
Bravo Amazon UK, Bravo BBC America!
I really like the show so this is really good news!
