Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
Rise: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Rise averaged a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.44 million viewers. Find out how Rise stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Very disappointed that Rise has been cancelled. My daughter’s and I love this show. Any chance NBC will reconsider? Very talented young actors.
I loved this show for so many reasons. This had to have had appeal across so many age groups I don’t get it. ,Sometimes the plot was a bit busy, but so are the challenges that our teens are facing. Please reconsider— you have the power to do that. Put it on Monday night like at 7pm. Music brings people together— no matter what their age may be. Bring back this show!
Can’t believe NBC is cancelling this quality, well written and performed show. So real, the show deals with true to life issues. NBC has to reconsider their decision and give this quality show a second season.
I am disappointed that Rise is being cancelled. I thought the show improved as the weeks went by as the characters grappled with the problems surrounding them. I thought the kids were amazing! I even got my husband to watch it!
I am so sad that Rise is being cancelled for Season 2. We really liked it. Maybe some other network will pick it up ( we can always hope).
Rise is such a great show. We need more! Please, please, please, NBC, reconsider.
My teenage daughter and I are so upset that Rise will not be returning for a second season. She would text me from school on Tuesdays to remind me that it was on that evening. We can only hope that another station picks it up!!
Best show I have watched in years! There was nothing like it. Very sad that it will not be coming back. It really shows how sick our world is, that the only thing that keeps people’s attention these days is crime, violence, murder and psycho crap.
I can’t believe this show is cancelled. Such a great show. So much more story to tell. Disappointed at some of the shows still airing and this gets cut. I guess Another reality show will air in its spot smh. Disappointed in NBC. Hope they reconsider!
Absolutely loved this show and looked forward to watching it every week. Was so upset to hear that it was cancelled – can’t believe it. Nothing comes close to it on tv.
I think it should have another season. Music and drama change children’s lives. My daughter died on Easter this year after a 6 year battle with cancer. She was a music teacher for 10’years. Hundreds of children came up to me to say how she changed their lives forever. Please continue RISE and keep this spirit alive …, sports aren’t the only thing for everyone!
Such a good show, I hope they will change their mind and renew it! So much more I want to know about the characters and their stories.
It’s been such a long time since I have been able to find able show that grabbed my attention from start to finish. Rise is not finished telling us their story. The cast is fantatic, the story relevant . We need the realness of this show, teenagers acting like teenagers, drama kids getting the spotlight without being campy. This show does not deserve to be cancelled.
Cannot believe you are cancelling Rise. A great show and the acting was tremendous. Why and how is this happening?
I was shocked to hear the news it was the best show on TV. Just goes to show you the men at the top have no idea what they’re doing. Hopefully another network will pick it up. Verrrry disappointed.
