Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.

What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
What a shame. I loved Rise. Was a quality show that both my daughter and I enjoyed and bonded over. Please NBC reconsider.
I am very perplexed as to why Rise would be cancelled. It was well written well acted and very impactful. It was one of the few really well done dramas on NBC! What a waste!!!!
It was an amazing Show, where it was Filmed was close to many of our Hearts! Would Love a return of this Show
I loved Rise! Can’t believe it’s cancelled!!
Rise was a great. So very disappointed it was cancelled.
I’m extremely upset their canceled it, rise is my favourite show and it needs to keep going it’s stupid to cancel it!
So sad that this show has been cancelled! My daughter and I loved watching it! It was a great show NBC should reconsider!
Rise was a great show, it left me in tears after almost every episode because of its strong meaning. Rise is show that tells viewers to never change to make someone else happy and much more. I’m beyond disappointed there’s not going to be a season 2.
So very disappointed that the show was cancelled. It’s message is desperately needed right now. NBC you must reconsider. This show is everything that society needs to see. It gives hope to the hopeless and demonstrates what needs to be seen. So sad that it will have such a short run.
Rise, we hardly knew ye! We just get to know these people and now they’re being taken away. Beyond having enjoyed the show, I actually got to care about the characters. I would love to see what happens next for all of them (including what show they would do next year…perhaps an original piece to keep within budget constraints?). This show was a lot of fun and I looked forward to each episode.
I would Love to be able to continue to do so!
Rise was one of my favorite tv shows this season. The acting was superb from all involved. It was great to have real life situations that teens experience. The teen actors were so transparent with their feelings and dilemmas that I’m sure that teens watching the show would know they’re not alone in their feelings. They would also know that there are reasonable solutions to help them address their challenges. These are my personal feelings. There is also a larger conversation I would like to speak to. As a board member of an TeenLine (www.teenlineonline.org) a peer to peer hotline… Read more »
Can’t believe that Rise was cancelled and NBC continues to air This is Us. Rise was comprised of much better actors and storylines. This is Us is cheesy and predictable, while Rise was well acted and dealt with real issues. Very disappointing.
This is Us is brilliantly written. It shows the diversity of family and the realities of life. It addresses racial, physical, and economic disparity Its an excellent venue to bring up social issues. It is as wonderful at Rise. Take another look. I listen to my students discuss this show with compassion and tolerance. It’s beautiful.
Awesome show which addressed many current issues like depression, teenage pregnancy, coming out and many more. I will miss this show. I hope another network snatches it up. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride with a positive message
This was one of the best shows on NBC. I watched it every week and could not wait till the next episode. Sick of all the violence and reality shows. This was better than this is us.
Very very disappointed that NBC has decided to cancel Rise! I thought Season 1 was fantastic and I was looking forward to Season 2!! Please change this decision and go forward with Season 2!!
