Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.

What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Love this show and really hope they bring back season 2!!!!!
This was an awesome show. Please don’t cancel!!! Excellent writing and acting!!!! Tired of cop and medical shows!
Rise definitely shouldn’t have been cancelled. The show gave us a look into the lives of students in a small town, and to me told a really inspirational story. My family and I enjoyed the series and were hoping for a season 2. The fact that the show has been cancelled is devastating and I wish it could have run for longer.
Rise should not have been cancelled. It was a show that my teens and I watch, and the real life topics the show addressed made it easy for me as a parent to discuss with them. It was an important show to have on the air! Plus, the cast is as diverse as it’s going to get and that’s so important to see in these times and it appears they all got along and there was so much connection between all of them. The Instagram live sessions they had after the show aired proves the comraderie this “sacred troupe” had.… Read more »
Isn’t it interesting how your comment mimics the exact theme of the show. It has almost made the message of Rise stronger. I thought the show was exceptional and am really sad it’s been cancelled.
I can’t believe this show was cancelled! So disappointed with nbc . A good show comes along and it gets cancelled !!!! T
Loved this show! Finally just caught up on it. Would love to see amazon video or Netflix pick this show up!
This was an excellent show! I’m so sorry that it has been cancelled! Made us laugh and cry. So good on so many levels!
I think that they should have released an episode with an unedited full showing of the actual play that they put it on. They had a fabulous cast and an awesome soundtrack.
Oh no!! I really loved this show!!
I’m really upset. Finally a different type of show then what is on. I became attached to each and every character. Hoping also that it will be picked up by someone else and continue a truly orig show.
I’m devastated! I really became attached to these characters, it truly it such a brilliant show. I’m still holding out hope that another company will swoop in and save it!
I really enjoyed this series. I loved that reflects a lot of social issues through the lense of a high school drama club, willing to go out in a limb to tackle “Spring Awakenings”. I really hope that a streaming channel will pick up this gem of a show. It’s a really great show allowing parents and children the opportunity to discuss some really important social topics.
Rise was a terrific show detailing many issues today’s families and teens are dealing with! Loved EVERY episode and I’m saddened that NBC has cancelled the second season. We need more programs like this (and This is Us) and less reality TV bs
Totally agree with you!
Finally a show about real families and real life!! Loved the actors and actresses!! Reminded me of One Tree Hill ! Loved it and so disappointed to find out its over already! So sick of medical and fire shows!!
This show was uplifting, family friendly. It was about real families and their problems. So, of course it was cancelled…so sad. I guess not enough weirdness or violence.
