Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
Rise: A Look at the Ratings

What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I lived this show! Couldn’t wait each week for the next episode to come out. So sad it was cancelled!
I enjoyed the show! Very talented artists. Please renew for second season. When I couldn’t watch it in prime time I would catch it on HULU. Consider those ratings too!
Please consider renewing the show for one more season. It has the potential to earn great ratings and just got off to a slower start because of its mid season release.
I think the show was amazing! Great storyline and cast. No one watches TV the old fashioned way, so I think they need to update the way they determine if the show is successful. I usually binge watch the season at the end of the show’s completion. They made a mistake with this one!! Sad to see it go!
Rise was AMAZING. Why cancel when it’s the truth and so relatable. It’s almost as if what happened in the show is actually happening to the show. Tired of other shows that are senseless to bring back are brought back and this incredible show is being cancelled. Makes no sense. Please bring back!!!
An awesome show, we loved it. Couldn’t wait for next weeks episode. So disappointed they cancelled it. They keep trash programs on and dump the good ones. Shameful.
Disappointed that the show was cancelled. Great cast and well developed script. Please bring back!
I hope so too, we really enjoyed everything about it.
So very disappointed. I dvr’d every episode because I go to bed early. I loved this show and so did my son. It dealt with real life teen struggles . I think they should bring it back maybe put it at a different time slot.
Very disappointed this quality show was cancelled. Why do they keep The Bachelor and Housewives shows and all the other shows with little to no value when a show like this is cancelled? It makes no sense!!!!!
I personally loved RISE. I remember thinking, great to have something to follow Glee. As a long time music teacher, I saw so much in each script that was so dead on. It was totally believable. I am dismayed to think of the number of senseless shows that were renewed for another season. I would be thrilled if someone would pick up RISE and give it a chance to grow. Same fate as Nashville. It seems music based story telling takes a back seat to the myriad of reality shows that feature idiotic, vapid, senseless dribble. BORING. Please find some… Read more »
How is it quality shows consistently get cancelled yet all the crap reality tv bs keeps flooding out networks? Rise is a show that is so much more than about high school musicals. I can’t help but believe it was cancelled b/c the tRump world we live in has made it ok to hate and discriminate.
Very disappointing.
Deeply disappointed. This show had heart. It was refreshing to see something on tv other than reality tv or another doctor/hospital show.
Great show – brought emotions, relationships, politics, education, LGBTQ issues, suicide, parenting, divorce, religion, and even entertainment into one series. Will be missed.
This is a tremendous show which should not be cancelled.
I am so disappointed. This was a tremendous show.
I too as so disappointed in this show being cancelled. I loved it and was hoping for more seasons..Hopefully another network will pick it up…..
I thought this show was very touching and well written/acted. I looked forward to seeing it each week and I cared about each of the characters. Why has this show been canceled?
