Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
Rise: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Rise averaged a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.44 million viewers. Find out how Rise stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
NBC please, please, please bring Rise back for a second season. It is absolutely one the best shows I have seen. I love the characters and storylines. Absolutely essential and relatable. Please, please, please, give it another try. Also, if NBC doesn’t renew will another station please consider picking it up.
My Grandaughter, age 13, watched Rise together. She is just learning about certain life issues so it helps to watch and have questions. We do watch the next day on Hulu so does this not count on your ratings. We also aren’t the normal age demographic, we are 13 and 69. So we not count?
I really enjoyed the first season of Rise. I looked forward to watching it Tuesday nights. I am sad to see that it won’t be returning.
If I were the directors of Rise, I would have 100% renewed the show. Rise is an insporational show that gives a positive message to all: Follow Your Dreams and Let Kids be Who they want to Be. Ending this amazing show was a devastating.
This show NEEDS to be on the air. We need to have people exposed to the issues of teachers and students in the high school environment. NBC don’t be so quick to dismiss this show due to ratings. Man, many people binge watch during the summer months as had been demonstrated in other comments.
Loved the first season. I just cried my eyes out on the final episode! (Think I cried every episode) Would love to see a second season.
Please, please, please do NOT cancel this show! I just watched the entire season this week and found it to be FANTASTIC! It drew me right in…well written and entertaining; makes one really care about the characters. The finale had me in tears. Please don’t let it end!
I have watched the entire season twice and think it is a well written and wonderful show. I know several people who have recorded the series and intend to watch (or finish watching) it this summer. Please don’t give up on this show yet.
I loved this show. It was captivating and well acted an unlike any other series playing right now. I am a 52 year old grandma and just finished binge watching. Please bring it back or pick up at another network!! There are too many unanswered questions for it to be over!
Please bring the show back. I watched every week and have binge watched the season again. Great show and since Glee was canceled was happy to see another musical themed show. I’m a grandma and sang from grammar school thru college. Loved the music and was sad to see it not renewed. Please try it again maybe in a different time slot.
I just binge watched the whole season in 3 days and I LOVED it. Cried my eyes out on the last episode and quickly jumped online to see when season 2 was out. I’m very disappointed.
I also binged the whole season in 2 days! I’m just as sad about there not bring a Season too as I was that Massous left without a goodbye. Very powerful, very relatable! Disappointed beyond words that we won’t be able to witness what would come next.
I just binge watched this show. Such a GREAT show
Great show! Just binge watched it on On Demand. Hope they make a season 2!!
Our family loved this show! Please bring back a season 2! Our teens could really relate to the reality it brought. I as a mom was brought more up to date with the things they face today.
Just watched the entire season in 2 days on the NBC app. This is an incredible show that makes you feel what the characters feel. You get so emotionally involved you forget you are watching TV. How can you cancel it? Please, someone pick this show up and keep the story going!
