It looks like season eight won’t be on the docket for police detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Doctor Maura Isles. Variety reports that Turner Entertainment chief creative officer Kevin Reilly confirmed that the Rizzoli & Isles TV show has been cancelled by TNT.
Though stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander likely would have kept making episodes, Reilly said that, “It felt like it was time.” The current cast also includes Lorraine Bracco, Jordan Bridges, and Bruce McGill.
While Rizzoli & Isles remains one of TNT’s top-rated shows, the ratings have fallen quite a bit over the years. The sixth season, which resumes on February 15th, is averaging a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.35 million viewers. That’s down by about 17% when compared to the fifth season’s ratings.
On the plus side, there are still plenty of new episodes to come. There are six more episodes remaining in the sixth season and the show’s already been renewed for a seventh season of 13 episodes. The latter will begin airing in the summer.
What do you think? Do you agree with the decision to end the series? Is it the right time or, should TNT keep it going?
this is one of my favorite programs on tv . please reconsider!
Just ruined my day. This is one of the few shows I watch or TiVo without fail. Wit, charm, believability and fine performances…what more could one ask?
I love this show! I’ve seen every episode since the beginning. Please reconsider.
I don’t think that people over 50 are given much to chose from and now I will have less to watch. I get home from work at midnight and the first thing I do is make popcorn and hit my dvr for Rizzoli and Isles. I love this show as well as Major Crimes. That’s why we’re still paying for Dish….to get TNT!! I hope you will reconsider and keep this wonderful show on for your loyal viewers.
I love this show. I am 38 and I have to D.V.R. all of the shows I watch. This show I actually watch with my mother faithfully.
Are the 18 to 49 year olds the only ones paying their cable, satellite and other Television bills ?? Those of us that are retired (and in the older age groups) are paying to get whatever the networks deem “worthy” of the masses and what “they” are watching. I’m paying to watch television, and what I watch differs greatly from what the 18 to 49 year olds are watching. SOOOO…. does my money not receive the same consideration as the younger money ??????? PLEASE quit insulting those of us who are interested in something a bit less sex, sex, sex,… Read more »
Rizzoli and Isles is a great show I love it my brother loves it and my kids love it we look forward to watching it every week on the weekends I watch the rerun TNT please renew it for a season 8 if you don’t I hope A&E picks up the series like they did unforgettable and I know that’s series is doing good I know Rizzoli and Isles would do great also
Pleases don’t cancell rizzoli & isles love the show
TNT!!! What are you thinking!!! This is a really great show!!! Who are you asking about this show!!! 18-49 group????? Really???? What about us older than that?? You never ask us?? Nobody asks us? Are we dead??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Keep this show on please!!! This is a wonderful show, great script, great actors and actresses. Really! Quit cancelling the good shows.
Too bad. This is one of my favorite shows and I always look forward to it. Strong women in lead roles not acting like idiots. What else can I say. The networks are always looking for shows that appeal to the 18 – 49 age group instead of finding shows that are enjoyable to watch by a mature audience. At least I have the rest of season 6 and also of season 7 to look forward to.
Come TNT guys, this is a great show. Terrific cast, nice interaction between cast members, good scripts. This show should go on. Don’t make a decision you will regret.
Keep it going. I do not know what TNT is thinking.
KEEP IT GOING!!!!!!
I say keep it going. Great show and great actors.
Kind of a dumb decision. A lot of shows dip in ratings after a while, but if it was still highly rated…why cancel? Here’s hoping a network picks it up. A&E picked up Unforgettable, for instance.
