As we reported earlier, ABC has greenlit a new season of Roseanne nearly 20 years after the original series ended. So will the reboot be stuck in the past? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the revival will tackle current issues.
The Roseanne reboot will feature the return of original castmembers Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman, and Lecy Goranson. The sitcom’s original run ended in 1997 after nine successful seasons.
At the recent Banff World Media Festival, ABC chief Channing Dungey revealed the new Roseanne will address contemporary topics, like Donald Trump’s presidency:
I don’t know whether Roseanne will speak about Trump by name. But she’s going to speak very honestly. … We’re going to be tackling some of the topics that are in the conversation today. I’ll leave it that.”
Dungey then mentioned that the Roseanne revival will feature three generations—Roseanne, her kids, and her grandchildren:
Now we will have three generations — Roseanne, her kids and her kids have kids who are teenagers. So we’ll bring back a point of view that has really been missing on the air.”
ABC’s Roseanne reboot is set to premiere in 2018.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Roseanne? Will you watch the revival?
I will watch, but do not know for how long. It depends on how they talk about our President. I dont care whether they support or don’t support our President, but I hope they can be respectful about it unlike so many others in this country.
Absolutely not
Didn’t John Goodmans character die on the finale?
I’m looking forward to see this one. But if they’re going to be bad mouthing our new WONDERFUL PRESIDENT, they need to address how awful the last one was as well…. fairs fair! And enough is enough of how badly he’s being treated. This will determine if I keep watching it.
I’m looking forward to the new Rosanne show. I can’t wait until it airs.
