The doctor is out. The USA Network series, Royal Pains, will be ending after its upcoming eighth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comedy-drama stars Mark Feuerstein as an ER doctor who relocates to the Hamptons as an on-call physician for wealthy clients. The series also stars Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, Ben Shenkman, and Henry Winkler.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a complete shock. Ratings for Royal Pains have decreased over the past few seasons, with the last season only receiving an average of around 1.45 million viewers per episode.
Additionally, we reported earlier that the series’ lead, Feuerstein, has been cast in FOX’s upcoming Prison Break reboot series.
The final and eighth season of Royal Pains will premiere on May 18th at 10 p.m. It will include the series’ 100th episode and a special musical episode with Cloris Leachman.
From showrunners Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch, in a press statement:
It’s with great sadness, but even greater thankfulness, that we prepare for our final summer sunsets as Royal Pains comes to an end. We couldn’t have imagined a more talented and dedicated writers’ room, cast, or crew, and we couldn’t have asked for better partners than USA Network and Universal Cable Productions. We want to thank Bonnie Hammer, Chris McCumber, Jeff Wachtel and every other member of our network and studio family for tirelessly supporting us over eight magical seasons, and more importantly, for giving us the opportunity to complete this series on our own terms. We’ll always have The Hamptons.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Royal Pains? Are you sad to see it go? Will you watch the last season?
I loved this series. I want more. I am so sad to see it end. Please reconsider.
I loved the series Royal Pains. It was the perfect blend of drama and comedy. It’s one of the few series I never got tired of watching. I will miss it! The cast was the best — great actors!
